Chair of Tesco to step down following personal conduct allegations
Supermarket giant Tesco has informed the industry that John Allan will be stepping down from his role as Chair of the Board and a Director of Tesco PLC. Allan will be leaving the company on 16 June 2023 at Tesco’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). According to the supermarket, over recent months a succession planning process has already been initiated and is “expected to conclude in the near future”. Read more.
NMB encourages retailers to embrace record mango volume
As summer approaches, the?National Mango Board?(NMB) has urged retailers to support mango sales due to there being a “record volume” of high-quality fruit arriving in the US this year. According to the Board, mango volume for the past three weeks has?broken records, reaching 4.4 million, 5.1 million and 4.6 million boxes per week. Read more.
More myths busted around cellular meat?
In a previous column for?New?Food, I wrote about my thoughts on the viability of producing large amounts of meat using cellular technologies. I was, to put it politely, rather dubious about this, as I could not see the economics stack up. I have also been sceptical about some of the environmental claims that replacing livestock-based meat systems for factory-based ones will ultimately be better for the planet. Read more.
Should food delivery apps be promoting low-calorie options?
Following a set of randomised trials, researchers state that food delivery apps should be promoting low-calorie options as it could help users to select healthier options.
The trials involved over 23,000 UK adults, with the results finding that promoting low-calorie alternatives could reduce the average excess calorie content of orders by 2-15 percent. Read more.
