This Week's Must-Read Articles
Dear LinkedIn community,
We've published several insightful articles this week that shed light on important topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) as we strive toward a more inclusive workplace. Here are three articles worth reading before taking off for the weekend:
6 Steps Toward Creating a Gender-Neutral Workplace
This article identifies six actionable steps organizations can take to create a gender-neutral workplace. Some key steps include: eliminating gender bias in recruitment and hiring, providing gender-neutral restrooms and facilities and offering gender-neutral pronoun options. By creating a more inclusive workplace, organizations can attract and retain a diverse talent pool and foster a culture of respect and belonging.
Companies should also consider offering gender-neutral parental leave policies and broadening the definition of pregnancy in the workplace, Samantha E. Erskine, Ph.D. , Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston and a member of The PhD Project, said.
“I think a lot of people still refer to people who get pregnant as women. It’s important for employers to reiterate that not all people who can become pregnant identify as ‘a woman,’ so broadening the definition of pregnancy and policies and practices to include people of all genders who might be affected by pregnancy-related conditions is important.”
