This week's Living Room Sessions: Humanity's Next Move; The New Collective Narrative; Opportunity in Adversity

This past week, we celebrated the non-binaries, from the end of 1 and 0 in quantum computing to neurodivergent leadership skills and intersex rights, and had an intimate conversation about intimacy and surprise in no-distance relationships – or, how to survive as a working couple at home

Today, Saturday, we will premiere the first live-streamed Living Room Session, followed by more spaces for you to listen, debate, and make! Attendance is free during the coronavirus crisis, but space is limited.

Take a look at the full upcoming program

And here's what's in store this week:

Humanity's Next Move

A conversation with Parag Khanna

After the world's lockdown mode, a new wave of migration might set in. Where will people move, which countries will attract them and why? And how might this accelerate and scale geopolitical shifts emerging across the globe? In an in-depth conversation with Parag Khanna, a global strategy advisor, world traveler, and bestselling author of multiple books, including The Future is Asian: Commerce, Conflict & Culture in the 21st Century, and Connectography: Mapping the Future of Global Civilization, we will look at future-relevant movements through the lens of geopolitics, global economics, climate change, and societal values.

Opportunity in Adversity: Why Resilience Beats Efficiency

Something new lies in the unforeseen and unpredictable. Instead of paralysis when facing the unknown, we need to strengthen our ability to rethink and reimagine in moments of crisis. How can business leaders learn to discover different perspectives from what lies beneath adversity? Together with Martin Reeves, chairman of the BCG Henderson Institute; Dawn Danby, ecological design strategist and co-founder, Spherical; Mohamad Al Jounde, International Children’s Peace Prize winner and board member of Gharsah Sweden; and Bosnian actors and writers Ina Arnautalic and Maja Zeco who grew up in wartime Sarajevo, we will discuss strategies of resilience and regeneration for organizations and leaders facing the coronavirus pandemic.

Poster Power: Make Your Sign

From WWII's “Keep Calm and Carry On," the Sixties' “Make Love Not War,” and Shepard Fairey's "Hope," to the rainbow drawings children are posting in living room windows across the UK to show their support for healthcare workers fighting COVID-19, posters have shown their power to communicate important messages of inspiration and motivation during times of crisis. A master of the art of poster making, graphic artist, print maker, and designer Anthony Burrill is renowned for his persuasive, up-beat style of communication. Join him for a studio tour and workshop to make "Signs of Encouragement." What you'll need: A4 paper and a Sharpie. What we'll make: posters to boost the morale of our neighbors, loved ones, and strangers as we navigate the challenging days ahead. Short messages have a big impact. Make your sign!

The New Collective Narrative: Explore, Debate, and Co-Write It

The COVID-19 pandemic has only created greater urgency for what research by the nonprofit organization More in Common has shown: that members of Western societies are longing for a new aspirational project, a new collective narrative that helps us overcome social and political polarization and unites us in building a better future after the crisis. What might that narrative look like? Join Mathieu Lefevre, co-founder and CEO of More in Common, and Gemma Mortensen, chief navigator at The New Constellation Project, for a discussion and workshop to get us started.
