This week's Living Room Sessions: The Great Reset, The Future of Work, The Art of Stillness, and more
Tim Leberecht
Co-Founder and Co-CEO, House of Beautiful Business; author, The Business Romantic and The End of Winning; speaker, curator, advisor
Last week, we sang sea shanties on World Water Day, hosted a conversation on how to be alone with yourself with more than 300 people, and invited you to experience magic and improvisation online. Encouraged by the great response to our virtual Living Room Sessions, brought to you by the House of Beautiful Business, we expanded our programming to at least three sessions per week going forward. Attendance is free during the coronavirus crisis, but space is limited.
Take a look at the full upcoming program
And here's what's in store this week:
Sunday, March 29, 7:00 – 8:00 pm CET
The Great Reset: What Will (Need to) Change after the Crisis?
The pandemic is forcing us to pause—it’s a moment of great uncertainty but perhaps also new clarity. What will we learn from this crisis, and how can we use it to fundamentally re-shape our economies and societies going forward? We will discuss these questions with Ciela Hartanov, head of next-practice innovation and strategy, people development, at Google; Jessica Orkin, CEO of transformation consultancy SYPartners; Gianpiero Petriglieri, associate professor of organizational behavior at INSEAD and a Thinker50; and Guy Standing, development economist, author of “Plunder of the Commons,” among many other books, and founding member of the Basic Income Earth Network. Hosted by Monika Jiang, Marizanne Knoesen, and Tim Leberecht.
Sunday, March 29, 8:00 – 9:30 pm CET
The Great Reset - A Virtual Lunch/Dinner
Following the preceding Living Room Session on "The Great Reset," we will host a virtual lunch/dinner, accompanied by House musician-in-residence Benjamin Schlez and his latest project, Tandberg. Come join us with your home-cooked dish for an intimate meal inspired by 15 Toasts, a format that creates a "safe space" to bring your full selves to the conversation. Your chefs and hosts, Monika Jiang, Marizanne Knoesen, and Tim Leberecht, will make sure everyone finds a seat at the table. And if you like, bring your family or roommates along.
Tuesday, March 31, 4:00 – 5:00 pm CET
The Future of Work, Revisited
The deck has been reshuffled by the coronavirus crisis. With remote work becoming the new normal and the pandemic disrupting every sector, it’s a good time to re-envision the future of work, beyond automation and New Work. Coinciding with Equal Pay Day, we invite you to a discussion with Saru Jayaraman, president of One Fair Wage; Frances Stafford, a curator and producer specialized in Contemporary Arabic Art; and other guests, hosted by remote workers Monika Jiang and Marizanne Knoesen.
Wednesday, April 1, 10:00 – 11:00 am CET
Going Nowhere: The Art of Stillness in a World That Can't Stop Moving
A conversation with the writer Pico Iyer
As the world has come to a halt and many of us are confined to our homes, join us for a conversation with Pico Iyer, a British-born, Japan-based essayist, novelist, and author of "The Art of Stillness," among many other books, about the monastic writer's life, the travels of the mind, his friendship with the Dalai Lama and the late Leonard Cohen, and the gift of silence. Hosted by Monika Jiang and Tim Leberecht.
Friday, April 3, 4:00 – 5:00 pm CET
The Future in 2030: Thinking and Writing in Scenarios
50 percent of the world's population lives in cities; "Resource Apartheid" is the new social undercurrent; superpowers include synthetic biology, “glass humans," and life on Mars. Beam yourself into the future, and start co-creating it with David Mattin, Global Heads of Trends & Insights at Trendwatching and author of the "New World, Same Humans" newsletter. Hosted by Marizanne Knoesen.
Sunday, April 5, 7:00 - 8:00 pm CET
House Party
Show off your dance moves - and show up to our first virtual House Party with tunes by Cheraé Robinson, an intrapreneur turned entrepreneur, DJ, Pan-Africanist, and the founder and CEO of Tastemakers Africa, an experiences marketplace connecting travelers to local insiders in African cities. Come join your hosts Monika Jiang and Xenia Müller - it will be awkward but fun!
Take care and see you in our Living Room!
