This Week's Landscape: Tools, Risks, & Innovations

1. Google's Prompt Gallery: Your New G-Suite Playbook

Google has taken a leap forward in simplifying business processes with its Prompt Gallery . This comprehensive collection of ready-to-use prompts for common tasks is more than just a convenience—I think it's a game-changer in the AI landscape.

Why it matters:

  • Accessibility: By providing a wide array of pre-crafted prompts powered by Gemini, Google is democratizing AI use, making it approachable for both novices and experts.
  • Efficiency: Users can now jumpstart interactions with Google Suite services; tying action and systems together, saving time and reducing the learning curve.
  • Trust: Acting as a trusted guide in this new age of automation, Google is positioning itself at the forefront of user-friendly interfaces to more complex systems.

It's surprising that Google beat competitors like Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic to the punch. Earlier this summer, Anthropic’s Claude introduced a prompt enhancer . Then Monday, May 9th, the team released a roundtable video of their experts talking about how to improve prompts . What Google has done is completely different.?

Google's implementation is unparalleled in its depth and breadth by one of the big players, setting a new standard for built-in assisting technologies. If you’ve used something like Zapier or Make, it will feel more familiar. They’re using the action card idea to take you into the workings of the prompt.?

Key Takeaway: Familiarize yourself with Google's Prompt Gallery. It's not just a tool—it's a window into the most practical, day-to-day applications of advanced automation features. It’s important to explore how these prompts might enhance your workflow or spark ideas for custom applications in your field. You should also consider how this development might influence your choice of AI platforms and tools in the future.

2. The Dark Side of AI: When Creativity Meets Criminality

Beats not Bots

A recent case has sent shockwaves through the music industry and beyond: a self-taught musician allegedly made millions by streaming AI-generated songs to his own bots for seven years. This isn't just a cautionary tale—it's a stark reminder of AI's potential for large-scale exploitation. You have to read the story to believe the scale and audacity.

Key implications:

  • Scale of impact: What once might have been a small-scale fraud can now potentially impact millions, thanks to AI and automation.
  • Creativity in criminality: If a self-taught individual can orchestrate such a scheme, imagine what professional bad actors might achieve. This guy was doing this for 7+ years. Full time criminals have been at it even longer.
  • Vulnerability of systems: This case exposes huge weaknesses in current content monetization and verification systems.

Action Item: Conduct a thorough vulnerability assessment of your business processes. Ask yourself:

  • What systems, if exploited, could ruin your business and affect team members?
  • Are there recurring payments just under authorized spending levels to unknown third parties?
  • How can you shore up your defenses against AI-enabled fraud?

Steps to enhance your security:

  1. Implement regular "security thinking" sessions with your team.
  2. Develop and maintain a comprehensive incident response plan.
  3. Invest in AI-powered security tools to detect anomalies and potential threats.
  4. Regularly update and patch all systems to protect against known vulnerabilities.

Remember, criminals are diligent in their pursuits to exploit. Match their dedication in your defense strategies by staying informed about emerging threats and continuously improving your security measures.

3. The Video AI Race: Everyone But OpenAI’s Sora?

The AI video generation landscape is evolving rapidly, with several players making significant strides. Since the last edition of this newsletter, there have been a number of announcements in the Generative Video space:

  • HotShot launched a new text-to-video tool offering impressive quality and versatility.
  • Runway updated with new pre-built directions including built-in customization prompts for easier content creation and better controlled outcome.?
  • Luma's Dream Machine 1.6 introduces new camera controls to help get the right shots, enhancing creative possibilities for video manipulation.
  • CinemaFlow introduces video creation with preset “vibes” like Classic Hollywood or Modern Blockbuster simplifying the process of achieving specific visual styles.
  • HailuoAI (aka MiniMax ) is another Chinese startup launching another promising entrant in the growing text-to-video market.

Notably absent from this list is OpenAI's highly anticipated Sora. The question on everyone's mind: Why the delay?

Industry Insight: The delay in Sora's release could be linked to broader economic challenges at OpenAI. My educated guess: it's all about economics and strategy. Here's why:

  1. Pricing conundrum: Rumors suggest GPT-5 could cost some customers up to $2,000 monthly. If their video generator is as groundbreaking as anticipated, the current pricing model might not be sustainable at consumer scale.
  2. Market observation: OpenAI could be waiting to see where the market settles in terms of pricing and feature sets before entering the fray.
  3. Enterprise focus: They could be pursuing enterprise models, potentially partnering with Hollywood studios or other big players in the video industry where they could secure millions in funding, versus $20-$100/month from individuals playing around with it.?
  4. Technical refinement: This pause might allow OpenAI to further polish Sora, ensuring it stands out in an increasingly crowded field.
  5. Resource allocation: Running a high-quality video AI service at scale requires significant computational resources. OpenAI may be carefully planning how to balance this with their existing services.

What to watch: Keep an eye on these emerging video creation tools and consider how they might be integrated into your workflow or business processes. You also have to be prepared for potential market disruption when and if Sora eventually launches to the general public. Its entry could significantly shift the competitive landscape and set new benchmarks for AI-generated video quality and capabilities.?

Learnings from my Workshop: AI in Startups

In a recent AI workshop I conducted, I observed how startups and leaders are leveraging AI to extend their teams and ideas. Here are my key insights, takeaways, and practical advice:

  • Start with Automation: For individuals and small teams, begin by creating simple connections and workflows between existing systems. This approach:

Tip: Look for repetitive tasks in your daily operations that could be automated using AI tools. Start small and scale up as you gain confidence.

  • Beyond ChatGPT: While media attention often equates AI with ChatGPT, it's crucial to view AI more broadly as a suite of software tools and applications. Explore:

Remember: The goal is to find AI solutions that complement your existing workflows, not completely overhaul them overnight.

  • Embrace Deep Conversations: AI implementation often opens doors to meaningful discussions about:

Advice: Encourage your team to engage in these discussions regularly. They're not just philosophical exercises—they can shape your AI strategy and company culture.

  • Chunk It Up: When implementing any advanced system, focus on specific, manageable slices rather than trying to overhaul everything at once. This approach:

Pro tip: Create a roadmap for AI integration, breaking it down into phases. Celebrate small victories along the way to maintain momentum.

If you want to access some of the pre-built prompts and resources I shared with workshop attendees , visit the link to find them on my website.

Remember, the journey to advanced integration is a marathon, not a sprint. Start small, learn continuously, and scale thoughtfully. The most successful implementations are those that enhance human creativity and decision-making, rather than attempting to replace them.

As we navigate this rapidly evolving business landscape, staying informed and adaptable is key. Whether you're exploring new tools like Google's Prompt Gallery, safeguarding against AI-enabled risks, or implementing new automations in your startup, the goal remains the same: harness the power of tools to drive innovation and efficiency, while remaining vigilant about potential pitfalls.

What developments are you most excited or concerned about? How are you integrating these concepts or tools into your work or business??

Share your thoughts. Let's continue this vital conversation about shaping our assisted and augmented future. Your experiences and insights are invaluable to others on similar journeys.?

Stay curious, stay cautious, and keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Until next time!

I've seen some apps mostly focused on content writing that helps you write better prompts. Google probably took it to another level. The music\bot scam is crazy. I need to look back into this blockchain company to see if they made any progress on their audience protocol. It is supposed to detect bots and remove them from views, impressions, etc.
