Eaton to invest another $80 million in El Paso, create 600 jobs

伊顿 , a power management company that opened a factory in El Paso in 2019, plans to spend $80 million to expand its El Paso operations.

The company announced Tuesday that it is buying a new facility and expects to create 600 jobs.

Asked if the company was planning to purchase the Helen of Troy headquarters in Northwest El Paso, Alex Mora, manager of the El Paso Eaton plant, said the facility is a strong candidate. El Paso Inc. reported last month that Helen of Troy was under contract with a buyer that was rumored to be Eaton.

The future of the former Luby’s site on North Mesa is a little jiggly.

The beloved cafeteria chain location, which had a home at 3601 N. Mesa for more than 50 years, permanently closed in April. Over the last month, the building has been demolished.


Kemp Smith welcomes new associate

Sergio Mendez has joined Kemp Smith LLP as an associate in the firm’s trial department. Mendez received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Texas at El Paso and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School.


El Paso judge named president of Texas Latinx Judges

El Paso Judge Maria Salas-Mendoza was sworn in as president and chair of the board of directors of Texas Latinx Judges, a nonpartisan, nonprofit professional association headquartered in San Antonio.


El Paso engineer awarded for concrete work

David E. Venegas, president of VEMAC, has been awarded the Tilt-Up Concrete Association 2023 Contractor of the Year Award and the Tilt-Up Achievement Award. He will receive the awards at the 2023 Tilt-Up Convention and Expo in Tampa, Fla., later this month.


Salvation Army presents Volunteer of the Year award

The Salvation Army of El Paso has presented Felix Casas with the Volunteer of the Year award. He has volunteered 249 hours with the nonprofit in El Paso since May 2022. In a news release, The Salvation Army of El Paso said, “Felix is a vital force in The Salvation Army’s mission, assembling food boxes destined for families in need and preparing sack lunches for various projects.”


SBA accepting nominations for small-business awards

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s El Paso district office is accepting nominations for its 2024 national and local Small Business Week Awards, including the Small Business Person of the Year.


Fort Bliss hosts ammunition and explosives amnesty day

Fort Bliss is hosting an amnesty day event. On Sept. 21, all soldiers, families and civilians in El Paso will have the opportunity to freely relinquish unauthorized, found, stolen or misplaced ammunition and explosives without fear of prosecution. Items can be relinquished with no questions asked from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Texas Army National Guard armory at 9100 Gateway North.
