This Weeks 3 things to know in 5 minutes (and more …)

In this third edition, I'm thrilled to report that we're maintaining our weekly publication schedule. Your continued readership helps keep me accountable, and I'm grateful for it. This week, I'm excited to introduce some new features, including upcoming networking events where we can discuss VBC, as well as noteworthy events worth attending. Additionally, I'm pleased to announce our first newsletter sponsor (full disclosure: I serve as an advisor at Vellum). Enjoy!

#1 - Managed Healthcare Article Summarizing Primary Care Flex Model

Article: https://www.managedhealthcareexecutive.com/view/for-rural-acos-new-primary-care-model-from-cms-offers-much-needed-financial-help

The recent Change Healthcare hack underscored the vulnerability of provider organizations to revenue disruptions. Amidst this chaos, the ACO Primary Care Flex Model emerges as a beacon of hope, offering upfront payments and monthly stipends to bolster financial resilience, especially for rural hospitals and medical offices. By prioritizing patient outcomes and cost controls, this model heralds a new era of financial stability and quality care in healthcare.

Key Takeaways:

  • Financial Lifeline: Upfront payments of $250,000 and ongoing stipends support provider organizations, particularly rural ones, in weathering revenue disruptions.
  • Outcome-driven Care: The model incentivizes efficient, effective, and outcome-oriented care, shifting focus from volume to quality and cost savings.
  • Strategic Planning: Interested organizations must act swiftly to assess eligibility and strategize on maximizing the model's benefits to optimize its value.

#2 - CMS Hosts a Successful Health Equity Conference With Launch of New Data Standards and Data Collection Methods!

https://cmshealthequityconference.com/

This years and the second health equity conference was really well done. I had the opportunity to attend remotely, and while I missed the networking the content was really well done. Congratulations to Dr. Martin Mendoza, PhD for taking the full time role as Chief Health Equity Officer and Director of Minority Health at CMS! Really looking forward to all you will accomplish and cannot wait to be part of it. New data standards and collection methods were launched at the conference. This article sums up things pretty nicely! https://www.ajmc.com/view/new-data-standards-and-collection-methods-detailed-at-cms-health-equity-conference

#3 - NVIDIA Releases “NIM”

https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-nim-model-deployment-generative-ai-developers

英伟达 has unveiled NVIDIA NIM?, a breakthrough in model deployment that empowers developers worldwide to easily build generative AI applications. Here are the top three key points as they pertain to healthcare:

  1. Enhanced Productivity: NVIDIA NIM dramatically increases developer productivity by offering optimized containers for generative AI models, allowing developers to build applications for copilots, chatbots, and more in minutes rather than weeks. This increased efficiency is particularly beneficial for healthcare developers working on complex applications such as surgical planning, digital assistants, and drug discovery.
  2. Infrastructure Optimization: NIM enables enterprises to maximize their infrastructure investments by running models more efficiently. For instance, running Meta Llama 3-8B in a NIM produces up to 3x more generative AI tokens on accelerated infrastructure, which can be invaluable for healthcare organizations dealing with resource constraints.
  3. Industry Adoption: NIM has garnered widespread adoption across various industries, including healthcare. Dozens of healthcare companies are already deploying NIM to power generative AI inference across a range of applications, from surgical planning to clinical trial optimization. With support from leading technology partners and system integrators, NIM is poised to revolutionize generative AI development in healthcare and beyond.

Nursing Advocacy!

Two major initiatives I want you aware of in the advocacy corner that you should consider signing up to support!

  1. Support the Center for Nursing Reimbursement - https://commissionfornursereimbursement.com/ nurses are baked into the room and bed charge. This is ancient thinking and needs to change. This commission is working to change this! Show Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL and team some support!
  2. Support Nursing Receiving #STEM Designation - through Nursing Is STEM - https://www.nursingisstem.org/ By designating nursing formally as a STEM profession we gain a lot including the ability to get to our next generation much earlier and share all that nursing has to offer!

Upcoming Events:

  1. LinkedIn Live: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/caryntomer_this-is-going-to-be-such-a-fun-conversation-activity-7202388758883700736-ox55 Join Kathy McGrew CNIO Microsoft, Becky Fox, CCIO Intermountain Healthcare and myself, Brian Norris for a fireside chat on nursing innovation, generative AI’s impact and where nursing (and all clinical) innovation is headed. You wont want to miss this! Use the link above to register for the June 14th session! The session is sponsored by MedeAnalytics
  2. Catch up with Me At HFMA in June: I will be at HFMA and would love to catch up via a meal, coffee or just in general. Please email me [email protected] to triangulate an time :)

Happy Pride Month!

June is pride month. I want to wish everyone who celebrates an happy pride month. Unity no matter race, creed, sexual orientation is super important and its good to take a pulse on this and how we can all contribute to an inclusive society!

Frontline managers have the single greatest impact on employee engagement and retention, but the managers themselves are overloaded and underdeveloped. A recent study by AONL indicated that just one meaningful interaction with a manager each month reduced nurse turnover by over 30%.
