Weeknote 2024.40
Adrian Gorst
Chief Technology Officer (Director of Digital Services) at Enfield Council
Weekend walking is an excellent tonic for days spent in meetings and a week off was welcome after an exceptionally busy October.
Saturday
Unsure how the weather would turn out, so I joined a walking group heading from St Paul’s to Embankment. If it really poured down, I could duck into a tube station or hop on a bus. The walk came to a premature end to avoid two demonstrations near Parliament, so I walked on to Rotherhithe and then took the Overground back up to Whitechapel.
Sunday
No doubts about the weather today. Sunny. I've walked through and around Victoria Park many times, however this was the first time I’d joined a group going from Homerton to Bethnal Green. A very pleasant morning with good company.
Monday
The first of an experimental series of short Monday morning meetings, three agenda items. What did we learn from last week? What do we need to work together on this week? And what do we need to pay more attention to? Then one of those days that brings a bit of everything.
Tuesday
A day with Enfield and Microsoft colleagues at Microsoft’s Paddington offices. We worked through our ambitions, starting with getting more from what the Microsoft licences we already have, through making more of our data through to using modern platforms to meet our users’ growing expectations.

Wednesday
And then off on Holiday. A mid-morning flight to Rome and then a stroll around to familiarise ourselves with the city. More than anywhere else I’ve been, there is archaeology, history, culture and art around every corner.
Thursday
All the usual Rome attractions, Coliseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and then an evening in Trastevere.
Friday
Crossed the international border from Italy to Vatican City in the morning, then onto Capitoline Hill and its environs in the afternoon.
Saturday
Time to get away from the heavily touristed areas for a little while with a walk around Quartiere San Lorenzo and then back to Palazzo Massimo, the highlight of the holiday for me, then an evening flight back to London.
Track of the week
Kool Aid by Royel Otis, who are playing locally at the Troxy in Tower Hamlets later in November. https://open.spotify.com/track/2HKDVLcHYBD8asWWttLU3W?si=e40dea90590448fe
