Weekly wrap (week ending 29 October)

With five days left until our annual Fun Run at Lake Burley Griffin, I’m proud to say that this past couple of weeks I have managed some self care time in the form of exercise. In the rush of the week, I (and many I know) tend to let exercise fall off the to-do list without a second thought. These past couple of weeks have reminded me the importance of exercise (in any form, most often for me, a walk) on our wellbeing.
So, while I encourage you to register and join me at our 4 November Fun Run, I also encourage you to make sure you don’t let regular exercise fall off your to-do list when the week seems too busy. Time spent on a quick walk, run or other active session is time well spent because it helps clear our mind and alleviate some of the physical impacts of stress.
In the office last week we celebrated the accreditation of 12 in-shift supervisors. In-shift supervisors are the guardians of the crisis support centre, on shift to prepare and debrief crisis supporters throughout their shift and beyond. They also fulfill the critical role of engaging emergency services when required to secure the safety of callers. A very big thank you to these individuals.
I often talk about the high caliber of training we have here at Lifeline Canberra — It is so good in fact that, when on the phones myself, I have never needed my degree in Psychology. This is true of both our crisis support training and supervisor training. If you ever needed convincing of the fact that the Lifeline training really is international best practice, we have two information sessions on our crisis support training coming up. If you have ever wanted to make a difference in your community and support those in need, I urge you to attend. Session details are on our website.
A very big thank you to Audi Canberra, in particular Richard Rolfe AM, for his generous support of Lifeline again this week.
We continue to visit organisations across Canberra to speak about our crisis support and workplace training services. Last week, we visited the team at APIS, an organisation we are thrilled to partner with in the coming year. A big thank you to the APIS team for your questions and conversation, and for your dedication to workplace wellness.
