Weekly video: West Des Moines Discovers Big Value in Road Weather Systems + Urban resilience related to water infrastructure
While many think road weather sensors are a winter tool for cities, West Des Moines, Iowa has discovered year-long value through the data that they deliver. In this video, we talk with West Des Moines' Public Services Director Bret Hodne about his deployment of road weather information systems by Vaisala. Road weather sensors collect data about the road conditions and temperature, which influence how a city manages its winter road maintenance, such as the deployment of snow plows and their use of salt on the roads. In this video, we learn about the variety of solutions on the market, from the large weather stations to the compact-sized devices that sit within the pavement. We also learn how the benefits of their data can go far beyond the roads, fueling intelligent transit systems and even influencing air quality applications.
In this week's coffee talk episode, Sylvia Haack from Isle Utilities tells us about the talk she gave at IFAT worldwide last week about urban resilience and water infrastructure, as well as some of the industry's leading technologies.
