PV market news this week:
Indian Cabinet has given its seal of approval to the government’s flagship rooftop solar scheme. It will target to achieve 30 GW installed PV capacity with a total outlay of INR 750 billion. Households will get up to 300 units of free electricity per month with their rooftop solar systems and can also earn extra income by selling surplus to discoms.
The government of Zimbabwe has approved a $45 million fund for renewable energy projects. The announcement coincides with the licensing of 10 independent power producers to generate 271 MW of renewable energy, including 116 MW of solar.
Italy’s most significant event for renewable energy took place last week in Rimini, witnessing a 41% increase in visitors and approximately 30% growth in the number of participating brands. This reflects the sustained growth of the Italian PV sector and underscores the expansion of the trade show, now ranking as Europe’s second-largest PV event after Germany’s SmarterE – Intersolar.
Pexapark, a Swiss consulting firm, reports that the new year began with 'robust activity' in power purchase agreements (PPAs). According to their findings, lower power and commodity prices contributed to a 12.8% month-on-month decline in all tracked PPA prices.
The European Parliament and the European Council have reached a provisional agreement on forced labor, aiming to ban products made with forced labor from the European Union pending parliamentary approval. Member countries will have three years to enforce the new provisions.
Italy's new provisions state that fiscal credits can be awarded to PV project developers who utilize solar panels manufactured in the European Union, provided that the module efficiency ratings exceed 21.5%, or the cell efficiencies surpass 23.5%. These fiscal credits will cover up to 35% of panel prices.
The government of the Maldives has initiated a 12.5 MWp grid-tied solar tender, aiming to install PV systems across selected islands. The deadline for registrations is July 4th.
The European Commission has approved a €350 million ($380.4 million) funding package to support companies in Portugal that produce solar panels, batteries, heat pumps, and other renewable energy equipment. This plan is designed to facilitate the country’s transition to a net-zero economy.
The French Ministry of Ecological Transition has published the results of the fifth round of the Programmation Pluriannuelle de l'Energie (PPE2) ground-mounted PV tender. It has awarded a total capacity of 911.5 MW to 92 projects.
Analysis from research firm Wood Mackenzie shows that solar remained the most awarded form of renewable energy in government tenders last year, but its share of the total volume dropped from 59% to 44%. In 2024, government tenders are predicted to at least match the levels seen in 2023.
