According to Macrae, partner movements in four key markets have more than doubled from the same period last year in the areas of investment management, funds, and white-collar defense practices.
Data from transnational recruitment agency Macrae shows that there were 100 lateral partner changes at Am Law 50 and Magic Circle companies between January and June 2024. Recruiting firm Macrae discovered that lateral partner hires among Am Law 50 and Magic Circle firms in Washington, D.C. decreased by roughly 6% in the first half of the year, despite a spike in partner movements in other regions.
One midsize law firm leader stated that "The idea of growing is not so much triggered by a particular market as a recognition that our clients are becoming more and more national in scope and we need to be in more and more markets, generally”.
23 Am Law 200 legal practices signed leases totalling 2.83 million square feet in New York City between the beginning of 2023 and May 2024.
The corporate firm has been actively seeking partners in an effort to match the best full-service legal firms in the nation.
