Weekly Update - 28th February 2025

This week on the GSS Network Datahub we look at:

Working together, supporting each other—sport can achieve amazing things.

Sustainability issues are bigger than any single organisation. They require collective action on a global scale. Sport has the power to drive that change. Sustainability is no longer optional—it’s a strategic necessity

Sports organisations face growing pressure from stakeholders, sponsors, and regulatory bodies to integrate sustainability into their core operations. Sustainability in a sporting context is a complex area, broader than ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and needing more clarity than the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sport needs its own framework that incorporates all these elements while ensuring sustainability is embedded at the heart of an organisation. Sustainability is not just about compliance; it is about enhancing business value, stakeholder engagement, and long-term growth. Our structured 4-step business development framework ensures that members embed sustainability in every aspect of their organisation.

  1. Discovery & Assessment?
  2. Education & Strategy?
  3. Implementation & Benchmarking?
  4. Leadership & Visibility?

Sustainability in sport is accelerating. Sponsors, fans, and governing bodies are demanding measurable action. The organisations that embed sustainability now will be the ones leading the industry tomorrow. The?GSS Network?membership programme is designed to help organisations navigate this landscape by integrating sustainability across all departments while supporting business development, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.

In response, Ocean Conservancy has launched?Protect Where We Play?(PWWP), bringing together athletes, entertainers, and fans to protect the ocean, our planet’s true MVP (Most Valued Player).

Talking to Global Sustainable Sport Ocean Conservancy's Jenna DiPaolo Colley said "We want fans to see themselves in this movement and understand how their collective actions can make a real impact,
