PV market brief news this week
On Oct. 28, National Energy Administration announced data about the construction and operation of PV power generation in the first three quarters of 2022. According to data announced, the new grid-connected capacity of PV power generation in the first three quarters hits 52.602 million kW, and the cumulative grid-connected capacity reached 358.067 million kW by the end of September 2022.
2. China publishes major plan on carbon peaking & carbon neutrality
On Oct. 31, China's nine ministries jointly published the Implementation Plan for Establishing and Improving Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Standard and Measurement System, which proposed to strengthen the construction of a carbon emission reduction standard system in key areas. For the PV industry, the technical requirements and testing standards for key products such as efficient photovoltaic modules and large-capacity inverters are proposed. The plan proposes to promote the standard establishment for repair, transformation and life extension of major products and equipment such as PV modules, PV brackets and inverters. And the plan also proposes to accelerate the development of intelligent operation, maintenance, repair and safety standards for intelligent PV products, equipment, and PV power generation system.
3. Vietnam to open renewable energy market to power purchase agreement
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIOT) of Vietnam aims to open Vietnam's electricity market to bilateral power purchase agreements (PPA) through a pilot program. According to media reports, the pilot program will enable renewable energy power generators to sell electricity directly to private off-takers based on virtual or synthetic transactions for the first time in Vietnam.
4. Eco-design for PV modules, inverters
The Sustainable Solar Europe conference kicked off this week with a focus on the European Commission's draft regulation on eco-design. The regulation will likely be adopted in the second quarter of 2023.
5. Thailand introduces FIT scheme for solar, storage
In an unexpected move, the government of Thailand has introduced a feed-in-tariff (FIT) of THB 2,1679 ($0.057)/kWh over 25 years for solar and a 25-year FIT of THB 2,8331/kWh for solar plus storage.
6. Spain, Portugal to lead renewables in Europe, says Rystad
Norwegian consulting firm Rystad Energy has described the Iberian Peninsula as "a new European energy powerhouse." It expects Spain and Portugal to reach 79% renewables in their combined electricity mix by 2030.
7. European energy secures Swedish court's clearance to construct 128.5 MW solar park
The Land and Environment Court in Sweden has cleared European Energy's 128.5 MW solar power plant project. Its application was previously rejected by Skane's County Board, halting project construction. The company now plans to bring the project online in 2024.
8. Europe's latest U-turn could threaten renewables investment
An unexpected "non-paper" in which the European Commission signaled a U-turn away from a price cap on gas has caused a stir in what was already an agitated European energy industry.
9. ADB, EDC launch 2 GW solar program in Cambodia
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and électricité?du Cambodge (EDC) have signed an agreement to develop 2 GW of solar in the Southeast Asian country. EDC will conduct a nationwide study to identify potential solar and storage projects for implementation up to 2030.
10.?Oman kicks off tender for 500 MW solar park
The Omani authorities aim to develop a 500 MW solar project in Ibri, in northwestern Oman, where other PV facilities are located. It will be commissioned by the fourth quarter of 2026.
