Google Makes It Easier to Remove Personal Information from Search

Google is introducing new features to simplify the removal of personal data from search results, including alerts for detected information, an improved takedown request process, and an option to refresh outdated search results.

Enhanced “Results About You” Tool

Google has revamped its "Results About You" feature, which now proactively scans for personal information and notifies users when it appears in search results. Users can then request removal directly from Google or contact the hosting website. The new interface makes it easier to manage and monitor alerts about personal data exposure.

Streamlined Takedown Requests

The process of requesting content removal has been simplified. Users can now click the three-dot menu next to a search result containing their personal data to access a redesigned panel. This panel provides clearer guidelines on eligible content and step-by-step instructions for submitting a removal request.

Faster Updates for Outdated Results

Google is rolling out an update to address outdated search results. If a webpage has been edited or removed but still appears in search with old information, users can now request a refresh. By clicking the three-dot menu next to the outdated result, they can prompt Google to recrawl the page, ensuring search results reflect the latest content. Previously, users had to wait for Google’s automatic crawling schedule, which could take weeks.

Privacy & Future Implications

These updates align with growing concerns over online privacy and demonstrate Google's efforts to comply with regulatory expectations regarding data protection. However, it’s important to note that these changes only impact Google’s search results and do not affect how personal information appears on other websites or search engines.

Microsoft Bing Testing AI-Powered "Copilot Search"

Microsoft appears to be experimenting with an AI-driven search engine called Copilot Search, building on its existing Copilot AI features (formerly known as Bing Chat).

Tech writer Mayank Parmar first reported this test on Windows Latest. Users can try it by visiting bing.com/copilotsearch?q=windows—replacing "windows" with any search query.

The search results include a message stating: "This summary was generated by AI from multiple online sources. Learn more about Bing search results here."

This suggests Microsoft is exploring a more AI-integrated search experience, potentially reshaping how Bing delivers results.
