The results are in! Full audit of magazine ABC’s for 2023
The annual audit of 2023 ABC circulations for the UK’s magazine industry have been released. ? The figures make for interesting reading; more publications saw growth in 2023 in comparison to 2022. 53 recorded an annual rise in the past year, compared to 31 between 2022-2023. However, the overall figure for magazine readership has declined, as the prominence of digital websites and social media continues to soar. ? So, what came out on top? ? Of the women’s lifestyle market, Good Housekeeping maintained pole position, enjoying a circulation per issue of 364,870. Stylist, Vogue, Woman & Home and Prima made up the top five. ? Moving onto men’s lifestyle, GQ ranked first with an average circulation of 85,090 per issue. Men’s Health followed with 77,563. ? In the interiors sector, Country Living came out on top, with an average circulation per issue of 175,039. WI Life, House & Garden, Ideal Home and House Beautiful came second-fifth respectively. ? A technology news brand is launching in London with a 20-strong team, hoping to buck the trend of industry decline over the last 12 months. Digital Frontier will produce a website, twice-weekly podcast and daily newsletter. The independent platform plans to make revenue from subscriptions, advertising and events. Its plan is to provide deeply-reported journalism rather than breaking news, and inform business leaders across various sectors who need to understand the impact of disruptive technology. Digital Frontier says it will target an audience of “future-focused business decision-makers, entrepreneurs and investors”. It mainly targets a B2B audience, but expects to also attract B2C readers. SOCIAL MEDIA? ?
Pinterest has launched a new global ad campaign to promote its evolving ad tools, which takes a comedic approach to highlighting the platform’s value for marketiers. The campaign, titled "The P is for Performance," features action-packed mini-movies that demonstrate how ads have an impact on Pinterest drive results. The initiative aims to attract more brand partners to consider the benefits of Pin ads and how the platform can facilitate reaching new audiences. With 450 million users, primarily with shopping intent, and increased usage among younger demographics, Pinterest is seeking to diversify its income by encouraging more brands to spend on Pin campaigns.?
Instagram is testing a new feature that allows users to create carousel posts within the Reels stream. This feature enables users to post multiple videos or still images in a single Reel. The move is seen as a way for Instagram to keep up with TikTok, which has already introduced similar options for sharing still images in its main feed. This could be a useful addition, providing new ways to showcase products and businesses through expanded storytelling. As Reels is Meta's fastest-growing content format, it makes sense for Instagram to test out various presentation options to maximise reach.
