Here’s your chance to fight back against losing an hour this weekend to the Daylight Savings switchover–by reducing your scroll time with all the latest from T&L in one quick handy spot! Speaking of ….
- Simplifying AI for Educators: The 3 Things You Really Need to Know (For Right Now) - Educator and author Dr. Michael Gaskell saves you the time and frustration of trying to navigate the frenzy of AI platforms and products by condensing it down to three main things that educators need to know. (Spoilers: How to make Beothurtreed Tuna Pie is not one.)
- 5 Reasons To Teach With Taylor Swift - Teaching with Taylor Swift can be a great way to help build a love story for material that students won’t ever want to, you know, shake off, says Misty L. Heggeness, an economics professor who recently created Swiftynomics 101, a free online course. (Editor’s note: Don’t blame me but it felt like karma to go beyond my wildest dreams to add as many T-Swizzle song titles as I could to this article.)
- Best Women's History Month Lessons and Activities - Designated as Women’s History Month, March is a great time to dive deeply into women’s struggle for equal rights and triumphs with these teaching resources, all curated by the always-resourceful Diana Restifo. One of my faves: The remarkable journalist Nellie Bly, who in 1887 went undercover into a mental health asylum to expose horrific conditions – plus, she traveled around the world in less than 80 days!
- BetterExplained: How To Use It To Teach Math - If you “don’t do math” (and not sure why that’s acceptable because no one boasts, “I don’t do reading”), BetterExplained is an online resource that offers articles, PDFs, videos, quizzes, slides, and more to help teach math concepts.
- Study: Writing by Hand Leads To Better Brain Connectivity - Write this down: Writing by hand may be more beneficial to brain development and learning than typing. And even though Erik Ofgang typed this story (to save time!), he delves into the research with study author Audrey van der Meer.
- How Do I Unfreeze My Device? - Our tech hotshot Luke Edwards is here to help when your device freezes, offering this quick guide so you can get back up and running – fast! (Just remember to bookmark this one on multiple devices!)
- March Edtech Show & Tell - Not reviews or endorsements, but this month’s showcase of new edtech products includes new Chromebooks, AI tools, IT classroom solutions, travel apps, and more. All of which can save you grains of sand in the hourglass!
Thanks for sharing your time today – have a great (shorter) weekend!
(Dune nerd update from last week’s newsletter that no one asked for: As a big fan of the Frank Herbert books, I really enjoyed Dune 2, and appreciated most of the changes needed for the film adaptation. I hope Denis Villeneuve gets to make Dune 3, and I’d be on board for even more, including the weirdness of God Emperor of Dune, just to get to Heretics of Dune and the possibility of Darwi Odrade on screen.)
