PV Market News This Week:
1. Moldova Targets 30% Renewable Electricity Consumption by 2030
The government of Moldova has set a target to account for at least 30% of electricity consumption with renewable power by 2030.
One of the ways for the country to increase its installed renewable energy capacity will be through the launch of tenders, which it recently announced. Offers for these tenders are planned to run between September 2024 and January 2025.

2. Australia: Solar PV is Fastest Technology to Deploy in Net Zero Race, Says Think Tank
Think tank Climate Change Authority has signalled that Australia's electricity and energy sector accounts for 35% of the country's emissions, with utility-scale solar PV taking an average of two to three years to develop and one and a half years to construct.

3. UK Awards Record 3.3GW Solar PV in Latest CfD AR6
The UK Department for Net Zero and Energy Security (DESNZ) latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) has awarded 3.3GW of solar PV.?
In total, 93 ground-based solar PV projects were awarded CfDs in the sixth auction round (AR6). This auction round beat a record set in AR4, when 66 solar projects, totaling 2.2GW, gained CfDs.

4. Rooftop Solar PV Volumes in Australia Slide by 7% Month-on-Month
Solar consultancy group SunWiz has revealed that rooftop solar PV volumes in Australia fell by 7% month-on-month in August yet it still managed to be the 13th-best month on record.
The 7% decrease, which saw 277MW of rooftop solar PV added throughout the month, follows a very strong July, when deployment reached a 23% month-on-month increase, reaching 302MW. This was also a record level for the mid-year interval.

5. Over 5.5GW of Solar PV Projects Have Reached Construction or Financial Commitment in Australia
Australia has around 5,516MW of solar PV projects currently in financial commitment or under construction, with the majority of these based in Victoria (14).
According to the Clean Energy Council's (CEC) latest Renewable Projects Quarterly Report, covering the second quarter of 2024, around AUS$7.6 billion (US$5.1 billion) has been allocated to developing these solar PV projects.

6. Qatar Unveils Plans for 2GW "Mega" PV Project
Qatari state-owned petroleum company QatarEnergy has revealed plans for a 2GW "mega" PV project in the Dukhan area of the country.?
QatarEnergy said the project would more than double Qatar's installed PV capacity by 2030, with solar representing around 30% of its electrical power production capacity by that point.

7. Solar PV Achieves Winter 2024 Record Generation as South Australia Runs on 100% Renewable Energy
From 26 August to 1 September, Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM) saw the highest rooftop and utility-scale solar PV contribution across the 2024 winter period.
According to OpenNEM, which grants the public information on the NEM, rooftop solar PV provided 13.2% of the total electricity generation in the last week of the official winter season, whereas utility-scale solar PV delivered 6.2%. This means that 19.4% of the electricity mix on the NEM came from solar PV during the last week.

8. Australia:?Solar Sunshot Launches with AUS$550 Million Earmarked for Module Manufacturing
On Saturday (31 August), the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) opened the first round of its AUS$1 billion (US$676 million) Solar Sunshot programme aiming to stimulate the development of a domestic Australian module manufacturing industry.
Two funding rounds have been initiated, with a total of AUS$550 million available for allocation. Round 1A, with an allocation of AUS$500 million, is intended to support innovation in solar PV manufacturing, focusing on modules, inputs to modules, and deployment systems.

9. US Authorities Detain Solar Modules Imported from Mexico
Maxeon, a Singapore-based PV module manufacturer, said in its second-quarter earnings report that US Customs and Border Protection has detained solar panels imported from its module factories in Ensenada and Mexicali, Mexico, for the first time. The company explained that the US authorities are trying to determine whether the panels comply with the UFLPA.

10. Poland Relaunches Residential Solar, Storage Rebate Scheme
Poland's National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management has opened applications for the sixth edition of its Mój Pr?d (My Electricity) rebate scheme.
Net-billing prosumers who incurred installation expenses after Jan 1, 2021, are eligible. The maximum subsidy available for solar without storage is PLN 6,000, increasing to PLN 7,000 for solar micro-installations with storage.Applications will be accepted until Dec. 20, or when funds are exhausted. Additional details are available on the Polish government's website.
Poland added around 4.6 GW of solar in 2023, taking its cumulative installed capacity beyond 17 GW.

11. Japan's 21th Solar Auction Concludes with Lowest Bid of $0.035/kWh
Japan's Green Investment Promotion Organization has released the final results of its latest auction for utility-scale solar energy projects.
The state-run agency said that 33.6 MW of PV projects were selected in the procurement exercise. It was Japan's 21st auction for utility-scale solar and was expected to assign 107 MW of generating capacity. The 22 selected projects range in size from 325 kW to 13.3 MW.
The lowest bid was JPY 5.0 ($0.035)/kWh and was submitted for a 650 kW project. The highest bid of JPY 9.13/kWh was submitted for a 750 kWW project. The average final price came in at JPY 8.08/kWh.
12. France?Deploys 1.05 GW of PV in Q2
France's Ministry of Ecological Transition reports that 1,056 MW of new PV systems were connected to the grid from April to June 2024. In comparison, the country added 1,054 MW in the first quarter of this year and 812 MW in in the second quarter of 2023.
As of June 2024, France's total installed PV capacity stood at 22.2 GW. About 2.14 GW were deployed on the mainland, with the remainder installed in Corsica and the nation's overseas territories.
