Driving Africa’s automotive future

Morocco is emerging as a key player in the global automotive industry, with cars now ranking among the country’s top exports. At the heart of this growth are manufacturing plants like the one in Kenitra, which produce vehicles for both local use and export to markets in Africa and Europe. Despite challenges such as supply chain disruptions and market shifts, the industry is finding ways to become more resilient. From hybrid and electric vehicles to sustainable manufacturing practices, the sector is contributing to economic growth, job creation, and Morocco's growing significance in global trade.

UPCOMING EVENTS

This year's Annual Agriculture Symposium aims to explore the critical intersections between global trade policies, food systems, and nutritional outcomes. In a world where international trade has the potential to both alleviate and exacerbate malnutrition, this Symposium will bring together policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for ensuring that trade can be leveraged to promote food security and healthy diets. It will examine how international trade affects access to affordable, nutritious foods, particularly in low?income countries, and how global supply chains can be adapted to meet the nutritional needs of a growing world population.

11th WHO-WIPO-WTO Symposium on “Strengthening Manufacturing Capacities to Respond to the Non-Communicable Diseases Burden”

Taken together, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases account for 74% of all deaths globally, killing 41 million people each year, mainly in low- and middle-income countries. The health and economic impact of NCDs is therefore substantial. Without increased investment, policy reform and attention to the structural and systemic drivers of ill health, this burden will continue to grow.

Against this background, the objective of the Symposium is to explore the extent to which strengthened manufacturing capacity and its diversification through local and regional initiatives and coordination of efforts can promote innovation and enhance access to health technologies for the prevention, detection and treatment of NCDs.

The event will be opened by the Directors-General of WHO, WIPO and the WTO.
