WEEKLY NEWS ROUND UP
Welcome to our first October edition of our hydrogen Weekly News Round Up! ??
?Here are our top 5 news pieces for this week with key takeaways:
1. Germany bets on hydrogen to help cut trucking emissions -
-
Daimler Truck AG
's hydrogen-powered, #zeroemission lorry has crossed the finish line in Berlin after completing a record-breaking 1,047-kilometre (650 mile) journey on a single tank ??
- The
Mercedes-Benz AG
GenH2 #truck started its #demonstration run at the group's factory in Woerth am Rhein on Monday afternoon, near the border with France, and arrived in the German capital on Tuesday morning ??
- The prototype truck made the trip fully loaded on only one fill of liquid #hydrogen, similar to what a diesel-powered truck can do. Unlike planet-warming diesel however, the hydrogen #fuelcell technology used in the truck emits only water vapour ??
- "You're showing that a heavy load can be transported over a long distance in a #sustainable manner," Petra Dick-Walther, state secretary for economic affairs in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate region, said at the departure ceremony ?
- To share out the costs of a hydrogen rollout, Daimler Truck has partnerships with other truckmakers and #energy companies such as
壳牌
,
TotalEnergies
and
bp
to install #refuelling stations in Europe and the United States ??
2. Lhyfe Supplies Vendée’s First Private Hydrogen Station with Green And Renewable Hydrogen Produced at its Site in Bouin
-
Brétéché
inaugurated the Maché hydrogen refuelling station at its existing site at the Bel-Air business park. This station now offers #greenhydrogen with a refuelling capacity of up to 800 kilograms per day ??
- With this station located on the Challans to La Roche-Sur-Yon route, Brétéché is targeting #commercial customers with high-volume hydrogen needs, such as #heavygoods and utility vehicles. It is one of the largest capacity green hydrogen refuelling hubs in France ?
- Thanks to a partnership with
Lhyfe
, the Vendée station is supplied with green and #renewablehydrogen produced just forty kilometres away in Bouin, at the Lhyfe Pays de la Loire site, using wind-generated #electricity and sea water ?
- Lhyfe plans to increase the #production capacity of this site for 2024. With a current installed capacity of 1 MW, which represents a production capacity of up to 300 kilograms of green hydrogen a day, Lhyfe Pays de la Loire already delivers customers such as the multi-energy service stations of La Roche sur Yon, Les Sables d’Olonne and Le Mans and the Lidl logistics centre in Carquefou ??
3. Japan’s ENEOS to cooperate with HIF Global on green hydrogen-based e-fuels
-
HIF Global
has announced a cooperation with Japanese petroleum refiner
ENEOS
for the supply of #greenhydrogen-based e-fuels. The agreement will focus on the supply of #efuels from HIF’s project portfolio to ENEOS as the energy major looks to reduce its #emissions ??
- Noting ENEOS’ involvement in promoting the use of hydrogen and #renewableenergy,
Sunaga Kotaro
, Senior Vice-President at ENEOS, said, “We believe this collaboration with HIF, which aims to become the world’s largest e-fuel producer, will also serve as a basis for leading energy transition and continue to support energy supply in Japan in a #carbonneutral society” ??
- Working with state-owned
ANCAP
, HIF is also pursuing a $4bn e-fuels project in Uruguay where it plans to produce 180,000 tonnes of e-gasoline per year from 100,000 tonnes of green hydrogen. In Texas, US, the company has plans to produce enough green hydrogen-based e-fuels to convert half a million cars to #carbonneutral operations by as early as 2027 ??
4. Triple opportunity could transform Latin America’s fortunes, bank head says
- The head of Latin America’s biggest development bank has called on leaders to transform the region’s #economic fortunes by seizing opportunities to export #greenenergy, food and critical minerals ??
-
Ilan Goldfajn
, president of the
Inter-American Development Bank
, plans to boost lending by an additional $20bn over the next decade. He believes this would help the region take advantage of the shift to #cleanenergy and a move to bring production nearer to the US market, and respond to citizen demands for better health, education and digital infrastructure ??
- Latin America also has a leading position in #global food exports, making it potentially part of the solution to some of the world’s most pressing challenges, the IDB president said. #Grain exports have been hit hard by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine ??
- For the region to exploit its abundant and cheap #solar and #wind power to export green hydrogen, Goldfajn said: “You need to organise yourself, you need to plan, you need to bring the resources, you need to have rule of law, you have to have regulation.” ??
- “All the region has problems with climate change,” Goldfajn said. “So there is an opportunity here for the region to seize, to be the ones who invest in clean energy, change the [energy] matrix, export part of it.” As an example, he cites a $400mn IDB loan made in June to help Chile use its cheap and abundant #renewable electricity to build a green hydrogen export industry. “Green hydrogen is booming because you have a lot of demand coming from Europe,” Goldfajn said. “And this is a region which can produce it in a cleaner way?.?.?.?We need to seize the opportunity.” ??
5. Alstom unveils Italy’s ‘first’ zero-emission train planned for hydrogen valley
-
阿尔斯通运输
and
Ferrovie Nord Milano Esercizio SpA
(FNM) have presented Italy’s ‘first’ hydrogen-powered Coradia Stream train at the EXPO Ferroviaria 2023 event ??
- The #train was presented by FNM, the leading integrated group in #sustainable mobility in Lombardy, Italy, along with the manufacturer Alstom, and will enter into commercial service in Valcamonica between late 2024 and early 2025 ??
- It will be utilised along the non-electrified Brescia-Iseo-Edolo line of FERROVIENORD where the #rail service is operated by Trenord, as part of the H2iseO project which will see Italy’s first #hydrogenvalley established in Brescia ??
- The #locomotive is expected to be Italy’s first zero direct #carbondioxide emission train, boasting hydrogen fuel cells, a 260-passenger capacity, and a range of more than 600km ??
