M-Memory

(Throwbacks to moments that matter)

Two years ago, on this very date (June 5), I was packing my bags for shifting to Chennai. It was a rainy evening and I remember being drenched in conflicting thoughts.

Questions like: Am I making the right choice? Should I do a master’s instead? Do I take fresh u-moroks or not?—played musical chairs inside my mind.

After some time, their friends—You are not a writer. You will fail—joined the party.

Fast-forward to today, the musical chairs have stopped. I met wonderful people and am currently working with some of the most talented people in the marketing industry. Now, even the future is uncertain, I am certain that I made the right choice. And that is all that matters.

I—Inspiration

(Three quotes that fueled my week)

For the creator in us...

“you can, you should, and if you’re brave enough to start, you will.” - Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

For the soul in us...

There is a right and a wrong in the universe, & the distinction should not be hard to make” - Superman in Kingdom Come

For the professional in us...

“It took me a few seconds to draw it, but it took me 34 years to learn how to draw it in a few seconds.” - Paula Scher, Graphic Designer, Icon

(Opinion on subjects of significance)

The cancellation of the Class XII CBSE exams begs the question “Are exams really essential?” Having grown up in an academic atmosphere, full of toxic positivity, I think the very concept of exams needs to be revisited.

Assessment of a child’s expertise on a subject need not be gauged on how much they can pour into the exam paper. Why not test how much they can apply the knowledge learned in practical scenarios? When this is done, I am sure the entire educational curriculum will morph into one attuned with the times.

R—Reading

(Readables that do not require a bookmark)

“Inspired by the Cervantes classic” that follows the Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, Quichotte is a riveting tale of a mediocre writer’s pursuit of unattainable love. It is thrilling, pokes at midlife crises, and takes the reader on the journey of a lifetime.

A perfect read for that after-dinner lounge, this masterpiece by Salman Rushdie is a teleport to a time when the world was not locked up.

O—Outlook

(Videos that change perspectives)

I have followed R.C. Waldun’s content since 2019 December. But this one, resonated with me, more than any other. It addresses the topic of how one can “find time to read.”

As a bibliophile who loves to read, but has been struggling in the past few months to squeeze in a few pages, this video gave me a new perspective. It discusses how a simple mindset shift can increase the amount of reading one can do in a day, and also discusses the type of pieces one can read in different scenarios.

For those who want to inculcate a reading habit, or hop back onto the wagon, this is a must-watch.

R—Reset

(How I want to approach next week)

Stress has been a constant companion in the past week, due to being locked up inside a concrete box.

In the coming days, I aim to reduce the number of stressors in my life — either by eliminating them from my life or overpower positivity. For things that do not matter, and are harmful, should be weeded out and not domesticated in one's mind.

See you next week!
