Weekly Market Review

Weekly Market Review

Good afternoon,

?Change is hard, but….

?

?You might have missed it, but I mentioned in a quick Easter egg at the bottom of last week’s message that there were some changes coming to the WMR.

?

Here is that to which I was referring: I have changed broker/dealers. I am no longer affiliated with Osaic Wealth (formerly Lincoln Financial Advisors.) I am now a member of the Wealth Strategies Financial Group of Cetera Advisor Networks, LLC.

?

“Why Mike? What’s happened? Did you get fired?”

Great question. Nothing happened, it’s just time for change. Time for a move forward for my clients and my practice and after much evaluation, consideration and many sleepless nights, I concluded that the WSFG team at Cetera is the fit. As most, maybe all, of you know, I’ve been the Lone Ranger for many years. Minimal staff, no partners, etc. I didn’t get much assistance with marketing, or admin or back office tasks or other important areas. My new firm promises all of that as well as some younger advisors to mentor and partner with. Along with those things, I’ll be upgrading my marketing efforts, implementing a WMR video channel soon as well as a podcast and doing more public workshops and seminars. It’s time to venture forward.

?

Some things won’t change. I’ll still provide professional financial planning, investment, risk management, accumulation, distribution and estate planning advice. I’ll still have access to appropriate solutions for my clients from any provider and for any scenario. I’ll still offer workout tips, advice on high quality protein and comedian suggestions. The WMR will not miss a beat and will continue to arrive in your inbox each week. Please pass it along. What will change is my office address, office phone number and email.

?

If you’re a client, I’ll need an autograph or two in order to continue working together. Other than that, the process won’t be too disruptive. One client happened to call on my first morning at the new firm and when I told him the news, he inquired “did you take my accounts with you?” Well Mr. Client, it’s fairly painless to move with me, but not quite that easy. If I haven’t called you yet, I will. If you’d like to call me first, please do so, Use my cell phone, 248-933-4339, no texts please. Or click my calendar link below to schedule some time. If you’re not yet a client, or know someone who should be, now is a perfect time to discuss becoming one. As always, initial consultations, or second opinions if you will, are confidential, complimentary and brief. Thank you for your consideration and your support.

?

?Moving right along…

I mentioned that there was much consideration and contemplation involved with making a change. I examined several options, discussed it with people whose opinions I value, weighed the pros and cons and was still hesitant to pull the trigger. After I did, the anxiety only increased. First I used some 4-7-8 breathing, then I listened to the Joe Rogan podcast, something I’ve been doing for at least a decade now. His guest this episode was Elon Musk. Want to feel like a slacker? Compare yourself to Musk. Not only is he the richest man in the world, runs multiple large companies as well as X (fka Twitter) and heads up DOGE, but there are people, many people, who’d prefer him unalive. He talked about it on the JRE. He gets regular death threats and has full time security, as should any billionaire. I concluded that perhaps I’m exaggerating my anxiousness about my efforts in life. Theodore Roosevelt famously said that “Comparison is the thief of joy,” but in this case I felt better after considering Elon’s circumstances. Things could certainly be far more difficult for me than they are. “Today I escaped anxiety. Or no, I discarded it, because it was within me, in my own perceptions, not outside.” – Marcus Aurelius.

?

“Mike, that’s all fine, but enough about you. What are we going to do about these tariffs getting implemented? Won’t they kill the economy?”

Good question. Before we panic, let’s wait and see what actually happens. If/when the U.S. imposes tariffs on our various trade partners, they’ll impose them right back on us and then everyone will negotiate and solve the problem. “We are more often frightened than hurt, and we suffer more from imagination than from reality.” – Seneca.

?

?Markets haven’t been taking the news very well, as evidenced by their volatility. What’s volatility? Don’t rely on the media for any insight. An actual headline on CNBC’s website the other day, “XYZ stock is expected to move 10% in either direction on earnings…”

So helpful.

?

?Markets go up sometimes and markets go down sometimes. Which, after all, is what markets do. I’ve been advocating protection strategies for a while now, which can mitigate those swings. Call me for help.

?

?Do I smell spring in the air?

It hit 50 degrees here in the D last week. I drove to an appointment with the windows down. Not quite warm enough for my summer car with the top down, but it felt good. Then the next day it was 20 again. Welcome to Pure Michigan.

?And speaking of golf, I’ve been watching the third season of the Netflix golf doc, “Full Swing.” As a golf enthusiast, I enjoy it. Golf is hard and this series chronicles the various ups and downs over the past season. Here is the trailer,

This week’s comedian review is Tony Hinchcliffe’s visit this past weekend to the Masonic Temple in Detroit. I’ve seen Tony before at the Comedy Mothership in Austin and I like him. Fair warning, he’s not for everybody. He is what they politely refer to as a “roast” comic. Which means a lot of his bits are making fun of people/events/groups/scenarios/etc. Along the lines of a Don Rickles from back in the day. That said, this outing was just ok. Not terrible, not great. The show just didn’t do it for me this time around. One of his opening acts was pretty good and Tony was ok, but that’s about it. He has a hugely popular podcast which I’ve enjoyed from time to time called “Kill Tony” which gets millions of views, so lots of people like him.

?

?

This week’s chuckle is a nod to Mr. Warmth himself, Don Rickles. Here he is with Johnny Carson from back when late night hosts were actually funny.

Safe for work.
