Weekly Market Review

Weekly Market Review

?Good afternoon,

?Several tidbits for discussion in this week’s edition. All of which are 100% non-fiction. You can’t make this stuff up.

?But first,

I received this note from a reader shortly after sending last week’s message,

?

“Mike,

Very good WMR this week! How many years have you been doing this?

You should document your reviews by year and review number for your fans to

Browse on your Website.

You have learned how to walk the political tightrope very skillfully in your reviews!

Thanks for sharing your interest in various comedians!

It’s always good to not take life too seriously and have a good laugh!”

?

Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoy the little break in the day that the WMR tries to provide. Short answer to his question is that I’ve been authoring the WMR for many years, at least 10 or more if I recall. I started including comedians a few years ago because everything in the world seemed so serious that I thought we could use a laugh. And yes, there are several hundred previous editions available at my LinkedIn page. If you’re interested, many of them can be found here, https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/michael-acho-3a891327/recent-activity/articles/

And one last call to action, if you know someone else who might enjoy a 6-8 minute WMR read each week, please pass it along. Thank you.

?From the “you can’t make this up” file, South Carolina found some money. The state itself found some money. I’ve heard of the laundry lottery, you know, when you find a $5 bill in your pocket, but this is extreme. They found $1.8 billion.?

https://apnews.com/article/south-carolina-missing-money-treasurer-comptroller-85ae9a632712477b0f8e354aee226d11?utm_source=copy&utm_medium=share

Yes, I said $1.8 billion. They can’t explain where it came from and/or where it should go. And my naysayers wonder why I don’t trust the government. But don’t you forget to document all your income next week when you file your 2023 tax return. Unbelievable.

?From the “in other dumb government news” file, there are 9 states that plan to ban the sale of ICE (internal combustion engine) cars by 2035.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/9-states-plan-ban-gas-powered-car-sales-2035

All under the guise of fighting climate change. Without going down the rabbit hole about whether climate change is a legitimate existential crisis, it isn’t, this is just another governmental control mechanism and power grab. CBDCs are next, central bank digital currency. Watch out for that.

?

And for those who dispute my climate change stance, the Earth is estimated to be almost 5 billion years old. Hurricanes and tornados and fires and floods were happening here long before I started driving full size SUVs and will continue long after I stop. The sun is the only thing that controls the weather on this 3rd rock we live on. If the sun burped or hiccupped badly enough, we’d all be dead in 8 ? minutes. So there’s that. #mathwins.

And here is an old History Channel show which describes what would happen to the world if all the people disappeared at once. Long story short, nature would reclaim everything. Some things sooner and some later, but ultimately everything. And it would be like people never even existed.

Gen Z needs a therapist to deal with the stress of filing taxes.

https://cnb.cx/3xiuVRH

Wait, what? C’mon that can’t be true. None of us enjoy filing taxes but a therapist over it? Is that even a thing? Here’s a smarter move. Call me to discuss tax reduction strategies, hire a good tax person and move on with your life. In other words, rub some dirt on it and get back in the game.

?

Or read this article and complete your own taxes, if you so choose.

?

I read this description of taxes recently. If you think about it, taxes are the annual subscription you pay to live in the United States. Childhood is the free trial period.

Hmmm, that sounds about right.

?

Speaking of taxes, here is your friendly reminder, which I include each year around this time, that nearly all taxes are paid by the people who earn the most money. So when your local politician whines about the rich “paying their fair share,” let’s remember that they already do. And then some.

Here is the article from which I took this chart,

?Last week’s in person comedian was Jared Freid at the Royal Oak Theater. I reviewed his Netflix special “37 and Single” last year and I enjoyed it. So when I saw he was coming to town, I grabbed some tickets. And I’m glad I did. I thought his show was really really good. His opening act wasn’t great, but Jared was. He came in hot with jokes right out of the gate and didn’t slow down for 65 minutes. Lots of material about him being now 39, single, no children and Jewish and his adventures with his family. Not sure if my expectations were low or maybe I was just in the mood, but I thought his live show knocked it out of the park. At one point, about 30 minutes into the show, a group of women wandered down to the second row, right in front of him, holding their white wines and proceeded to take their seats. No attempt to be discreet or unobtrusive or anything. Jared finished the bit he was on, very professionally, then to the delight of the rest of the audience, proceeded to roast these obnoxious ladies for their behavior. Very funny. He’s not unnecessarily crude but some bits have a little profanity so I can’t link to many of them, but I suggest you give him a try.

?

Not exactly warming up here yet, but hopefully soon.

This is a sure sign of spring, cars and coffee starts up again this weekend. Nice.

?This week’s chuckle is the actor who played Biff in the “Back To The Future” movies. He gets asked the same questions often.
