Weekly Market Review

?
Good afternoon,?
Mike, are you back from Jamaica?
?Was it nice?
?Did you acquire some locally grown Jamaican herb?
Nah mon, not my thing. I did bring back some allegedly authentic jerk seasoning. We’ll see.
?
My friends and I visited a local market after lunch one day. Like a flea market, lots of various huts with moderately aggressive proprietors selling essentially the same items. Bracelets, cover ups, hats, key chains, towels, etc. “Come see my store, footprints leave good luck!” And of course the list price of an item is only a suggestion, it’s all negotiable. That’s got to be a tough way to make a living. Very competitive. One more mature shop owner tells me, “Come look at my store, you promised!” Wow, I don’t remember promising, but if that’s what I did then I’ll come look. If I don’t, are you going to put a curse on me? “Ha! No mon! I don’t do that anymore!”
?
My uneventful flights both to and from Montego Bay made my curious mind wonder, how many flights take off and land successfully every day? This data from the FAA includes info from FY2022, and says that more than 45,000 flights per day handle almost 3 million passengers. And when you consider that there is only occasionally even a hiccup, that’s a remarkable success rate. And that’s only in and out of the U.S. Include international flights and the stat becomes even more remarkable.
?Markets continued to rally whilst I was away from the office, maybe I should travel more often. Why are the markets doing so well?
Because that’s what they do. Except when they don’t. It has been well documented that timing the markets is impossible, so don’t try. The goal is to participate when things are going well and be protected when they’re not. I’ll help you with that.

Here is a chart, representing whatever you’d like it to represent, which should clear everything up. You can’t argue with the data. #mathwins.
?I have not attended any live comedian shows in a few weeks, so I’ve been satisfying my comedy cravings with older specials.
This week’s comedian special review is Jen Kirkman’s 2015 Netflix special “I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine)” This popped up on my Netflix “you might like this” feed so I watched. I enjoyed it. She’s funny, self-deprecating and jokes about real life stuff that we can all relate to. Pay attention because she talks fast and the jokes come rapidly. This is an older special and she has some newer stuff out now that I will definitely look up. Next up in person is Tim Allen this weekend. Look for the review next week.

This week’s chuckle, and speaking of flying, is 4 minutes of Sebastian Maniscalco checking in at the airport. It bothers him. https://youtu.be/ysGGVNIG4nE?si=GEhWu1SsWKwMr9CL
He’s not wrong. Safe for work.
Of course, I can’t mention air travel without recommending the movie “Airplane” which clocks it at nearly 3 jokes per minute for the duration of the film.
