Weekly Market Review

Guardian of the Wealth of the Most Productive People on Earth | Creating, Protecting and Distributing Wealth for Clients
Good afternoon,
?Subject line of a client email I received, "economy”
The body of the email contained 1 line, "please call me asap"
So I did.
This client is concerned, as are many people, about what's going on in the economy and the markets. Tariffs, layoffs, interest rates, etc. etc. “What do you think is going to happen? Should we be selling some of our stocks? Just look what’s going on, I think we’re heading for a recession.”
All valid concerns.
Is there a recession on the horizon?
I don't know. Neither does anyone else.
As I’ve mentioned here before, one of the WMR’s favorite, and most accurate, economists explains, convincingly, that the markets are 15-20% overvalued based on his corporate earnings models, #mathwins. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t areas that are still good investments, it just means that we need to be more diligent in selecting them. And it means, as I’ve also mentioned for the last few years, that some protection strategies should be considered. Upside potential with downside protection. Or as I like to say “winning without losing.”
?
If you’re scared/concerned/apprehensive/anxious/nervous about your investments, you’re not alone. Call me for help and we’ll figure it out. In the meantime, don’t forget to breathe. 4-7-8.

I believe that I've mentioned before that I find coins on the ground fairly regularly, probably at least a couple of times per week. I don't do anything special with them, but I do keep them. They wind up in a box on my dresser at home. This week I found the above penny while at my local gas station. 1942 wheat penny. A quick query via Siri and she told me that this is worth between 15-25 cents. At that exchange, I'd only need to find 4,999,999 more 1942 wheat pennies to become a millionaire. #mathwins. However, hoping to find coins worth more than their face value isn't exactly a sustainable investment strategy. And in a follow up question with Siri, 5 million pennies would weigh 27,500 pounds. I'd have to move that stash to the garage.
??
Turns out I won't need 5m 80 y/o pennies after all. This email arrived unsolicited. Seems legit. Though waiting for a Ugandan email promising riches isn't a sustainable investment strategy either.
?
Is it worse case or worst case?
I asked myself as I typed out an email to client. I discovered that the correct phrase is “worst case.” As in, your worst case scenario of income for life will be $X,xxx per month forever. I learned something new.

Offspring update.

Kids are doing well. My son is living in NYC, working for a consulting firm and enjoying it. He’ll be traveling Europe for several weeks coming up in May. That will be fun.
My middle daughter is about to graduate from Michigan with a degree in cognitive science and marketing. Any assistance with job placement would be appreciated. Opportunities in Boston, MA, Austin, TX and anywhere in Italy preferred.
My youngest daughter is completing her sophomore year at Indiana U and will likely wind up in NYC for an internship in the fashion industry this summer.
Thank you for asking about them.

?This week’s comedian review is Sebastian Maniscalco in person with 20,000 friends at Little Caesar’s Arena last Saturday. This was my first time seeing Sebastian in person. I’ve had tickets to his last two Detroit appearances but had a conflict at the last minute each time. This time, no conflict so I saw him live. He’s really blown up over the last few years, going from very popular to insanely popular. Like every other successful comedian, he’s got the hit comedian package. Several comedy specials, a couple of movies, a streaming TV show, a podcast and a live tour. Good for him. This show, the 93rd of his “It Ain’t Right” tour, was very good. Sebastian did about 70 minutes of all new material, nothing that I had heard or seen from him previously. Good energy, interesting topics and very funny. The stage was in the middle of the arena, what performers call “in the round” with huge video screens above so every seat had a good view. With only a smattering of adult language, it was a really enjoyable show. I recommend seeing him live if you get the chance. I also recommend his various specials over the years, all of which are good as well. Dinner after was at a WMR favorite spot, Central Kitchen.? https://www.centraldetroit.com/

Separately, I have been mentioning for months to several of my friends that Sebastian was coming to town. I told them when and where. I provided the pre-sale code for tickets before they became available to the public. I secured dinner reservations for after the show. And all I got was crickets. Then the day before the event, one friend says “we’re not going to the show, but we’ll be in that neighborhood before the show, come hangout.”

After months trying to generate some buzz in my friend group, I’m not interested in a “by the way” invitation to hangout, so my response was…

?Next up new special is Bill Burr’s latest “Drop Dead Years.” I haven’t checked it out yet, but will do so soon. Next up in person is Sam Morrill in April.

?And finally, here is your friendly reminder that my half hour virtual office hour is back this Friday. Hop on at noon and ask me anything.
