Weekly Jolt ? Work With Us to Advance Clean Energy Technologies

Come Work with Us

Are you a small business interested in working with EERE? ?? The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) just released a funding opportunity to encourage small businesses to engage in high-risk, innovative research and development to bring clean energy technology into the market. Don’t miss your chance to research and deploy clean energy technologies with us here at EERE, submit your letter of intent by tomorrow!

Don’t forget! There are multiple chances to spend 10 weeks with EERE this summer, whether you’re an undergraduate student or college faculty. ?? Undergraduate students from minority-serving institutions can apply to the Solar Manufacturing Internship for Leaders in Energy Program TODAY to intern at companies that work with EERE’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO). Faculty from minority-serving institutions can apply to the Faculty-Applied Clean Energy Sciences Program by Feb. 15 to work with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to develop educational modules for clean energy science.

Advancing next-generation technologies that reduce harmful emissions ?? is key to tackling the climate crisis and strengthening America’s manufacturing competitiveness. DOE recently selected 49 projects to reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions, and EERE’s Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) just released an $83 million funding opportunity to keep the momentum going. Submit your concept paper by March 19 to help IEDO decrease emissions from hard-to-decarbonize industrial sectors.

What’s New in Buildings and Industry?

Education and workforce development are fundamental to build the robust domestic clean energy manufacturing sector of tomorrow. ?? That’s why EERE’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Materials Technologies Office awarded funding to its five Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institutes to develop education and workforce development programs to support the needs of that rapidly expanding workforce.

What’s New in Renewable Energy?

A key component in concentrating solar-thermal power plants is the solar receiver or solar reactor which converts sunlight ?? into thermal energy. SETO wants your input to better understand the technology development needs for these receivers and reactors and further opportunities to get them into the market, so submit your feedback through Feb. 20.

SETO also wants your input on?successfully deploying?distributed solar and related technologies through programs designed to serve low-income and disadvantaged communities. ?? Industry, state, Tribal, local government agencies, community-based organizations, and others can submit your feedback by Feb. 23.

What’s New in Sustainable Transportation and Fuels?

EERE’s Bioenergy Technologies Office just supported an interagency initiative ?? to sustainably grow a thriving bioeconomy across the nation’s climate, energy, biomanufacturing, health, agricultural, and environmental sectors! ?? Read the report to see how we can improve U.S. data infrastructure and accessibility in biotechnology.

Last week, LanzaJet officially unveiled its Freedom Pines Fuels facility, the world’s first ethanol-based alcohol-to-jet sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) commercial production plant! ?? The new facility, supported by EERE’s Bioenergy Technology Office since 2016, will improve how we produce SAF and reduce the cost of producing ethanol-based renewable jet fuel.
