XR Talks: The State of AR Glasses, Part 1

The last few months have seen an inflection in activity in AR glasses. It started with Snap Spectacles’ fifth generation in September, followed one week later by the much-lauded Meta Orion. Both define the vanguard of AR glasses.

Neither is available to the public but they signal aspirational investments – to the tune of tens of billions – and a snapshot of the extent of AR’s capabilities today. There are still immense challenges in achieving both UX richness and wearability, but there’s clear progress being made. (AR Insider)

VR City Manager ‘Little Cities’ is Headed to Vision Pro Next Month

Little Cities, the pint-sized VR city manager, is getting a new version for Apple Vision Pro that’s all about mixed reality gameplay.

Called Little Cities: Diorama, the game will launch for Vision Pro through Apple Arcade on December 5th.

It also just so happens to be the game’s first foray into mixed reality, as the version available on Quest and PSVR 2 focus entirely on virtual environments. (Road To VR)

We recently speculated what Meta’s next generation of its Ray-Ban smartglasses – the third in line – could be and do. Now we take that forward-looking analysis to Meta’s other XR hardware line: Quest.

Though Quest 3 and 3s recently launched, Meta is already hard at work on Quest 4, given the length of these product development cycles. And from what we can see so far, it may redefine VR through upgrades to eye and face tracking. (AR Insider)
