Two weeks ago I opened up the LSPcommunity.com to new members and as part of the ongoing project I'm going to share weekly highlights of what we've been talking about in the LEGO Serious Play world!
Here are just three of the many topics we're discussing at the moment:
1. LEGO Serious Play Music / Playlist
A lively discussion of what music to play while people build in an LSP session. Lots of diverse options shared from up tempo to 80’s to chill to Irish to everything in between. The take away was: lots of different music works. It depends on your audience, your facilitation style and your topic.
One next level tip that some facilitators are doing is matching music to the different builds / parts of the session. Creating a whole audio visual kinetic experience!
2. Large Groups vs. Small Groups
Good discussion on what are the differences in an LSP session when the numbers change. From small group (6) to medium group (24) to big group (30+). We discussed the type and amount of bricks, your role as facilitator and the outcomes you can get.
The take away for me was each session is just different. There's no better or worse, you're just working on different levels.
I personally like the smaller groups where you can really add your skill as a facilitator. But LSP is flexible enough to do any size. One person even shared a case study of a 600 person session!
3. Memorable LSP Moments
We continued the discussion of memorable LSP moments. Moments that have stuck with us as facilitators. As the initiator of the discussion said: "It’s not just about the method and the participants … we matter too".
The topic was a great way to share those moments and in particular the lessons we learned from them along the way.
One of my memorable moments was this model and story:
Where the builder said "I don't like what this is saying..." and went on to a rich discussion of career, life goals and the feeling of being stuck. The lesson for me was the power in creating a physical replica of a feeling in the mind.
