With writers currently on strike, networks and streaming services are turning to reality TV this fall, in a big way. This week is full of Reality TV season premieres, including: Bachelor in Paradise, the Golden Bachelor, the Amazing Race, Survivor, The Kardashians, Hell’s Kitchen, Dancing with the Stars, the Voice, and like, another dozen shows you’ll probably recognize. To go a step further, networks have increased the episode lengths for many of the shows to try to get a little extra out of audiences, with hits like Survivor and the Amazing Race bumping episodes from 60 to 90 minutes.

Government shutdown deadline ???? Saturday, September 30

Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle are hoping to pass a short-term funding extension to keep the lights on and avert a shutdown. But it’s not at all clear that plan will succeed amid deep divisions over spending between the two parties and policy disagreements over issues such as aid to Ukraine. Here’s what you need to know.

The Creator in theaters ?? Friday, September 29

It’s from the Director of Rogue One, but this is not a Star Wars movie. As war rages between humanity and artificial intelligence forces, an ex-special forces agent is recruited to find a person who has developed advanced AI and a mystical weapon that could finally end the war. Initial reactions from critics are overwhelmingly positive, calling it “one of the best movies of the year”, “profound”, and “visually phenomenal”. We’re in.

Netflix officially ends DVD service ?? Friday, September 29

Wait…what? It took this long? Your move, Blockbuster. After an incredible 25-year run, Netflix has decided to put a hault to its DVD.com business this Friday. Some fun facts:

First shipped DVD: Beetlejuice (March 10, 1998)
Number of DVDs shipped: 5.2 billion
Most popular title of all time: The Blind Side
Unique subscribers over the years: 40 million
