OIL AND GAS NEWS
Russia is considering $50 billion hike in taxes on oil, gas in 2023-2025
Russia is considering raising taxes on the oil and gas sector to the tune of 3 trillion roubles ($50 billion) in 2023-2025 in order to plug the budget gap, the Kommersant daily said on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
The ministry expects a budget deficit of 1.2% of gross domestic product (GDP) this year and 1.1% of GDP in 2023 amid spending for what Moscow calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine and sweeping Western sanctions.
The government wants, in particular, to raise the export duty on gas to up to 50%, start levying a duty on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and raise domestic gas prices so that companies pay more in minerals extraction tax, the paper?said.
The finance ministry has also proposed hiking the oil export duty and increasing state revenue from the oil products trade.

Failing To Invest In Oil And Gas Would Be The “Road To Hell For America”
Cutting off investments in fossil fuels would be the road to hell for the United States. This is what JP Morgan’s chief executive Jamie Dimon said during a congressional hearing on a range of topics.
"Please answer with a simple yes or no, does your bank have a policy against funding new oil and gas products, Mr. Dimon?" Rep. Rashida Tlaib asked JP Morgan’s chief executive, after laying out net-zero plans that require a shift away from fossil fuels.
"Absolutely not, and that would be the road to hell for America," Dimon?said?in response. He went further, as well, saying the country needed to invest more not less in oil and gas.
Jamie Dimon, JP Morgan
“We aren't getting this one right. The world needs 100 million barrels effectively of oil and gas every day. And we need it for 10 years. To do that, we need proper investing in the oil and gas complex. Investing in the oil and gas complex is good for reducing CO2. We've all seen, because of the high price of oil and gas — particularly for the rest of the world — you've seen everyone going back to coal.”

#RENEWABLE ENERGY NEWS
World’s richest countries fall short on renewable energy targets
Most of the world’s 20 largest economies, known as the G20, lack ambitious renewable energy targets or are falling short of their climate commitments, according to a report by climate and renewable energy advocacy groups.
The G20, which includes 19 countries and the European Union (EU) and Spain as a permanent guest, is responsible for around?80 per cent?of global energy-related emissions. This gives the group significant responsibility to reduce emissions as well as?influence over the world’s pace?to decarbonise, says?Mike Peirce?at the Climate Group, a UK nonprofit that advocates for climate action.
Peirce, along with others from the Climate Group and a renewable energy research group called REN21, analysed data on renewable energy development within G20 countries to rank their progress towards renewable energy goals. A “sustainable energy transition” is a top priority to be discussed during the G20’s annual conference in Bali in November.

France's Macron seeks 'massive' boost for renewable energy
French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday called for a “massive acceleration” of renewable energy development in his country, including offshore wind farms and solar power, via a new plan that seeks to bring lagging?France?closer to the energy policies of its European neighbors.
The move comes amid a major energy crisis in Europe aggravated by Russia's war in Ukraine. Macron wants France to gain more independence in terms of electricity production.
“The war changed everything... it disrupted the European model, because many countries were depending on Russian gas for (energy) production. And clearly, for the first time, energy has become a weapon of war, ” Macron stressed in his speech in Saint-Nazaire, a port in western France.
Macron went on a boat Thursday morning to visit France’s first offshore wind farm off its Atlantic coast.
He then detailed a range of measures to accelerate renewable energy projects. A bill will be presented next week at a Cabinet meeting.

UNECE?roadmap to net-zero?calls for greater use of nuclear energy
Nuclear energy plays a significant role in scenarios which achieve carbon neutrality in North America, Europe and Central Asia, according to a new report from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). If advanced reactors are successfully deployed to complement large scale nuclear reactors and there is progress in introducing low-carbon hydrogen infrastructure, then the role for nuclear energy is even greater.
The report - titled?Carbon Neutrality in the UNECE Region: Technology Interplay under the Carbon Neutrality Concept?- builds on the input from international experts and data scientists from across UNECE regions. The publication - the first UN-regional led modelling of the energy system -?identifies a range of technology and policy solutions for the region to attain carbon neutrality by 2050.

New hydrogen fuel cell more efficient than diesel engine
Hydrogen fuel cell maker Loop Energy Inc. said on Sunday that its latest cell system can deliver better fuel economy than a diesel engine at current price levels.
The Burnaby, British Columbia-based company said that - based on a pan-European diesel cost of $1.91 per litre on Sept. 5 and $10 per kg of hydrogen - a truck could travel just over 111 miles (179 km) on $100 worth of fuel using its new S1200 hydrogen fuel cell system versus a little over 109 miles for an equivalent diesel truck.
Ben Nyland, CEO, Loop Energy
"This brings the future forward. This product delivers the economics that are needed for adoption today.”
