Weekly Ecommerce News ?? - 9th January, 2024

Heya! And welcome back to 2024. Here's another email to throw on your post-holiday pile. You're welcome.?

It's too early in the year to sound smart here. I don't know about you but LinkedIn is a bit intolerable with those who had too much time to themselves over Christmas. Let's warm up to the task.?

Instead, I'd love to hear from YOU on how we can help you hit your ecommerce goals this year...?

  • Are there any ecommerce guests that you would love us to feature??
  • Which ecommerce topics should we deep dive into with experts??
  • What does a good ecommerce event look like to you in 2024??
  • How could we re-use our content library (350+ eps!) to help you more?

I'd love your thoughts before we crank this machine up properly. Email me on [email protected] or reply here with thoughts, ideas or compliments. They don't even need to be fully formed sentences. I'll reply to them all.??

Welcome to 2024. Godspeed.??

Cheers, Bushy

ECOMMERCE NEWS

?? Adobe (US) just released their online holiday sales report for Nov and Dec. Total US online sales were high - up 5% YoY. Discounts were even higher. But the most interesting stat for me was that online mobile revenue overtook desktop revenue for the first time - 51 to 49%. ?

???? My vote for the most powerful peak promotion was Kester Black 's 'Perfectly Imperfect' sale. When Auckland flooded in early 2023, they had just received their biggest-ever nail polish shipment. It went under. Insurance didn't pay up. It took them a year to get it sorted for sale. Their founder, Anna, tells the story on Instagram.?

?? If you want to shift the needle from 'price' to 'value' the latest trend of 'wardrobe tracking' might be worth a look. Customers are using apps and social challenges to calculate the cost per wear of items to reduce their impact.?

?? Could you even say that you had Christmas Day unless someone received a Yeti mug? It's not an AU-specific trend. Stanley in the US is having the same moment. As are Crocs, Malibu and New Balance. It's the kind of brand resurrection moment a marketing can only dream of.?

?? This Facebook product ad from Officeworks seems to be getting a lot of attention. I don't get it.?
