"The victorious army attacks a demoralized and defeated enemy." -?Sun Tzu?
?As I contemplate the space and time between then and now, I can feel the rot of War tearing apart the scars and bars of my sacrifice. For me there is no distance far enough to create the safe space from my reflections. I am tethered to the broken mast of our bloody past.?
?Yes, the structure of our towers did fall, but, the divine inspiration which ultimately built them shall never crumble. The breath of freedom shall never forget to recall the winds of the storm’s past. This living moment shall always help me remember the charted path of our honored dead.?
?We are under attack.?
?It is difficult to process the magnitude of that inevitability with our faces in or in front our screens. It’s time to put away the treasonous distractions. Strip your souls bare and let the hallowed ground grip your feet and lay your hands bare. Feel the heaviness of the ground, the dented concrete, and the little grass plots that help us to remember our fallen. You must connect with this horror. Grip it as tight as the passed flags, whose fingers clench the folds so tightly, they will remain intact forever.?
?Once you have felt the pull of terror and pain, what will you do next? Will you stay broken within the whispers of rubble or perhaps you should look to those whose call to arms dug us out? Who shall dig us out now? To whom shall we praise? The perpetrators? The politicians? The patriots? How about the parents of those who gave all. Least we forget, the wives and husbands. And lastly, the lost children of War. For their voices will never wain should you choose to perpetually speak their names. Over the cloth of suppression, in the silent heaviness of the dead air.?
?Ashes to ashes and rubble dust to moon dust. We always return to bitter taste of rotten and tyrannical actions soaked in the blood of my brothers and teammates. Now, after the catastrophic departure from our killing fields, it is the taste of defeat again? That coated tongue and empty gut leaves me yearning for a fill of my faith with their heroic deeds. We must never forget that we have, and shall forever rise from the ashes of complacency, to fill our stomaches with fire. To spit the flames of freedom upon our enemy’s cold hearts. To extinguish their malevolent burns in order to ring the bells of those who will deliver the hellish tolls. Our salvation is lit with the great stories of running into the fires of Hell. We must keep telling the tales that keep the memories, of great men and women who fought the wars and fertilized the fields, alive.?

?We must always be willing to wage to War.?
?Twenty years appears to have taught some very little about the true cost of sacrifice. Yet, as I tread lightly on this hallowed ground of so many who jumped to their death, I want to believe the young Marine reservist, who just got a heavy torch past to his future potential, is actually going to carry the load. The ruck that is filled with the screams of dying youth. I wonder if their mothers ever wanted to really hear them. Or were they too piercing to postpone the truth of our shared experience. Evil is real. But so too are the Devil Dogs. I just heard them growl.?
?When speeches are given by titans, so much depends on who is listening. It is possible to shake the core of America free from its vacation. Perhaps there’s a fast pass to the “Shackles of Tyranny” family fun ride. By then, I’m sure, we will be searching for the original papers to which all was written so that we can begin to speak the truth once more. Do not squint too long at the horizon of War. At some point that dawn will return.?
?The holes are large. The pouring water falls. The stems fold and the flags flow freely. Tears and laughter. So many names. We will never forget.?
