- Institutional Investors Spur South Africa’s Crypto Boom: While we are on the topic of institutional investors, they are also present in SA as well. The 2024 Geography of Cryptocurrency report by Chainanalysis shows South Africa’s crypto economy is booming thanks to institutional activity.
- Capitec Faces Backlash: That bank with long queues, Capitec, is facing heat from South African crypto traders. Capitec has blocked transfers from its accounts to crypto exchanges in an attempt to prevent fraud. Thankfully, this doesn’t mean the bank is anti-crypto - however, some experts are not convinced.
- SARS Continues to Double Down on Hunting Crypto Tax: No one wants to deal with the taxman. Well, SARS is acting like the ant that won’t go away in 2024. Seeing the boom of digital currencies in recent years in South Africa, SARS is actively looking to ensure those who should pay tax on their profits do so (oh, this includes past profits as well).
