How's your week?

Today, to start our CASual, I'm pulling your attention to a wider topic than I normally would.

How to think... instead of what to do.

But it's necessary, because of what's coming.

During Q&A in a live training I recently did, a new agency owner (Andrew) brought up "the shocking Julia story."

(Apparently, people are still talking about it. If you haven't heard, it goes like this... Julia, on stage December 2022: "AI can't touch the human writer. Not possible. I bet my life earnings on it."

Julia, January of 2023: "Here's my favorite AI writer, I've completely adapted, I now create my entire blog presence at Content Hacker with this AI tool.")

Andrew's first line when he came up for Q&A in the Zoom call – "Julia, I can't BELIEVE how much you changed your tune! You used to be completely against AI!"

The catalyst that changed my opinion was seeing the technology. It would have been denial (and stupidity) to try to keep claiming I was faster/better, after seeing Content at Scale write good long-form in mere minutes.

Well...

As I scrolled Twitter a few days later...

What was the first thing I saw?

A writer, worried about their job.

Hm, I thought.

That used to be me.

But here's the thing that I know to be true.

Fear isn't the right approach.

And if you have writing skills – or writers in your team/agency: you are in an extraordinary position to resell writing as a service and make bank more than ever before, if you learn how to use AI (NOW) and begin to cut back drastically on time and costs.

And if you run a business – you can be a 10x content machine at way less cost and headache than it used to take.

But you can't bridge that gap if you're too afraid.

And that's why Andrew witnessed a huge shift in my career.

And when I saw the writer's tweet, I jumped into that Twitter thread and answered Hayley with my backup plan to stay irreplaceable: use AI before it uses you.

The truth is, you've got to play offense in life sometimes.

You can't just hold up a shield and hope to play defense and succeed.

Not now.

Not with the RAPID advancement of AI.

We're advancing light years ahead in months.

And there's no stopping it.

To get as real with you as I can – because I, too, was an agency owner – I, too, was/am a human writer...

I really like the efficiency that these tools provide and the new ideas and thoughts that it can generate. I've only recently started using ChatGPT and have found it pretty helpful and now my mind is thinking of the different ways that it can help me be a better marketer. Recently I used it to help me create a method to score multiple ad campaign audience performance metrics to help guide my bid optimizations and it provided some really good alternatives to my approach that I had not thought of before. My hope is that it doesn't have a negative impact on segments of the population like it has with optimizing engagements though social media. But the key here I think is that it's all in the eyes of the beholder on how we leverage these tools and I hope there are more positives outcomes for us than negatives.
