Telegram Trading Bot 'Banana Gun' Sees Daily Volume Surpassing $16 Million

Telegram trading bot Banana Gun has recorded daily trading volumes of over $16 million. These developer-designed automated trading agents aim to simplify meme coin trading, airdrop farming and token bridging for users, but come with added custody risks. According to Dune Analytics, Banana Gun maintains a seven-day average trading volume of $9 million, rivaling popular decentralized exchanges. With approximately 19,000 trades per day among 3,000 daily active users, it has attracted nearly 46,000 lifetime users since launching in June, accumulating a lifetime trading volume of $589 million. In total, Telegram bots, including Banana Gun, have accumulated a cumulative trading volume of over $4 billion as of November 13, 2023. However, users should remain wary of the security concerns and potential risks associated with these bots, as evidenced by a recent Unibot exploit that resulted in the loss of $60,000 worth of tokens. More on this.

dYdX Exchange Targeted in Alleged Attack

dYdX , a decentralized exchange, experienced a targeted attack resulting in a loss of $9 million from its insurance fund, representing approximately 40% of the total v3 funds. The attack involved a significant price manipulation of YFI, yearn.finance 's native token. Founder Antonio Juliano indicated that open interest for YFI had spiked abnormally, and the price crash allowed the attacker to withdraw significant USDC from dYdX. As an immediate response, the team increased margin requirements for YFI and other less liquid markets, but this proved insufficient. Despite the incident, no user funds were affected, and the exchange still has $13.5 million in its insurance fund. The dYdX team is investigating the attack and has reported its findings to the FBI and has refused to negotiate with the attacker. This event occurred on dYdX v3, which has a centralized order book and matching system that differs from the controls on the newly launched dYdX chain. More on this.

SEC files new lawsuit against Kraken

Kraken Digital Asset Exchange , in response to the SEC complaint, maintains that it does not operate as an unregistered securities exchange, broker, or clearing house. The SEC alleges Kraken's digital assets are "investment contracts" requiring special licenses, but Kraken highlights a previous court ruling rejecting a similar SEC theory. The company refutes claims of "commingling" funds and emphasizes that no customer funds are lost or at risk. Despite the lawsuit, Kraken continues to serve its clients and supports regulatory efforts for clear crypto trading frameworks, advocating for practical digital asset regulations. More on this.
