Weekly Artist Feature: Tunji Adeniyi-Jones
Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora
Miami MoCAAD will discover, commission, collect and preserve the work of the most advanced contemporary artists.
This week, we’re highlighting Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, a Nigerian-British artist whose work redefines how we celebrate history, cultural heritage, and the African diaspora ??
Currently based in the USA, Adeniyi-Jones creates lush, dreamlike paintings that draw from the rich mythology of West Africa and his Yoruba heritage. His elongated, fluid figures set against vibrant tropical backdrops merge African art traditions with contemporary aesthetics, forming a bold visual language that celebrates movement and transformation.
Adeniyi-Jones’ accolades include a BFA from Oxford University (2014) and an MFA from Yale University (2017). His work is featured in major collections such as the Dallas Museum of Art, Fondation Louis Vuitton, and Pérez Art Museum Miami. In 2020, he was honored on Forbes’ "30 Under 30" list for artists.
Through his practice, Adeniyi-Jones bridges the past and present, offering a fresh perspective on identity, culture, and the power of art to inspire.
