This weekend we hit the motherlode!
Top of the weekend my friends! This Sunday we hit the motherlode!
It's the mother of all tribute days. Literally!! It's intelligence personified! There's flowers and dinners with the family.
Not to mention a somewhat series of nursery rhyme type incidents, that will mother goose her loving spirit!
She is the one who gives birth, raises and nurtures a child and often times a husband. On the other side of this mental picture. She had to figure out how to make ends meet too. Especially as a single parent. Regardless of how the emotional or psychological suffering happen.
When frustrated her name comes up in a vulgar slang. Yet she is still a very extraordinary and sometimes overprotective woman. That can happen when you've been through a lot.
Which is why the second Sunday in May is her day! She needs a break today!! (pardon the pun).
I stumbled across a couple of tributes by sons and husbands (some daughters too) published about her importance. I thought this would be a good time to share them.
David said "she cared for the elderly in a Christlike manner". Bruce expressed how during his adolescence. She worked him like a Hebrew save without straw. He had a very strong spirit of rebellion. However she never gave up on him. It was through her "he" learned about the compassionate side of life.
Doug was just the opposite. Her values and discipline of Godly service to the needy stood out in his mind. She modeled faith, patience, love, hard work and forgiveness. THEY SAY I'M JUST LIKE MY MOTHER!
A few daughters also chimed in too! For instance, Janet didn't like her curfews and comments about her choice of friends. Only to realize later, she was protecting me from hurt, harm and danger. Sometimes Momma knows best. Patrica learned how to be a more complete woman by observing and serving at the feet of her really godly mother!!!! THEY SAY I'M JUST LIKE MY MOTHER TOO!
Flashback!!! Remember when "Big Momma" made you turn off the TV during thunderstorms because GOD was talking? You're thinking not now!!! It was always during the good part too. Now that I'm older I understand. What I couldn't stand in my younger days. Reverence!
Whether it was that, in your face kinda love or hoping "you have children just like you" - torment humor. It was her way of teaching you responsibility and accepting the consequences for your actions. "Children should be seen and not heard" translated was I want you to go much further in life than me.
Remember this warning, "I don't care what they do. They don't live here! You Do!!!"
Happy Mother's Day! To celebrate try heat up or air condition the outside. Tell your kids "I gave you books and you eat the covers" or "The more I teach you the dumber I get". And my favorite, "This is gonna hurt me more than it's gonna hurt you". The difference is now you can understand it. To quote the Motown cowboy "I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then".
Mom thanks for putting up with those young-ins at times. When we were ungrateful, acted irresponsible, disregarded your advice. But GOD!! Today they can not erase your influence! Hallelujah!!!!!
Once again, this Sunday we hit the motherlode! I'll close with Proverbs 22:6.
"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he (they) is old, he (they) will not depart from it"!
Now from the Dancer translation "They may take a few detours. But keep the faith and leave the rest to the Almighty". Donut ever forget it! (or You'll end up preaching to the choir!!)
