Continual Curiosity
What makes us curious, but bored at the same time? Oh, I know, there are some people who just seem to “get along” and never question anything. I don’t think that’s anyone receiving these WEEKEND THOUGHTS though. We are a naturally curious bunch. Did you ever wonder what makes us that way?
Is it boredom? When we are born, we want certain things but have to go through the process of creating the neuropathways needed to make our muscles work to get what we want. Watch a baby try to grasp something. It takes time and repeated effort. But, once they hang onto it, mission accomplished, boredom sets in and they want the next shiny object. This process of curiosity followed by boredom which creates new curiosity continues throughout our lives. We even have a word for it: innovation.
I think this is one of the main reasons we humans stand out from all the rest of the animal world. We are never satisfied with what we have. We have an internal drive to conquer boredom with new ideas, new discoveries, and more, more, more.
May all your curiosities be rewarding.
