To Say or Not to Say
Is there anyone alive who hasn’t blurted something out and immediately wished they could take it back? Don’t deny it; we’ve all done it. And probably more times than we wish to think about. Sometimes we even?wonder where it came from. Other times we know exactly where it came from but wish we hadn’t said it.
The tongue is a small but powerful part of the human body. It can be likened to the rudder on an aircraft carrier or the bit in a horse’s mouth. Neither should be used in anger or without thought. The captain of the ship will order a course change only after careful consideration of all surrounding circumstances- other ships, shoals, channels, weather, and most importantly the desired destination. The same applies to the horse, although with one difference: horses sometimes have a somewhat unpredictable mind of their own and can react accordingly. People are like horses in that way. Just sayin’.
We were given two eyes, two ears and one mouth. We should apply them in that ratio. The wise person takes thought before acting or speaking lest a small word spark a great destructive fire. Sometimes the most effective word is not speaking at all.
May all your words be wise and productive.
