As we wrap up our work week, I feel it’s essential to think beyond relaxation and entertainment. Focusing on personal and professional growth is imperative on weekends too! If we can all balance our downtime with some talent and skill enhancement, we can set the tone for a better, fulfilling, and productive week ahead. As a CHRO, here is how I plan some of my weekends, where I unwind and level up my skills.
?Saturday: A day to unplug and explore
Morning: Embrace nature and seek mental clarity
Whether it’s a long walk in a nearby park, a hike, or a simple jogging session, getting closer to nature can help you relax your mind and boost your creativity. While indulging in any of these activities, think and reflect – on what worked out last week, what did not, and how you can overcome certain challenges with different approaches. This introspection will help you gain ‘mental clarity’, an invaluable factor in our HR field.
Afternoon: Dive into learning and skill enhancement
How often do we get time to grab our lunch in peace? Rarely! Have a relaxing lunch with your favorite dishes and then divert yourself towards skill enhancement. I am sure, each one of us has some areas we have been meaning to explore to grow. I am planning to take up the following activities:
????????? Employee well-being: Several websites like #SHRM or #MindTools offer materials, articles, and courses that provide wonderful insights into creating balanced and supportive work environments.
????????? Diversity and Inclusion: Understanding unconscious bias is a great topic for all CHROS to explore. With #Coursera and #LinkedInLearning, you can gain knowledge to implement effective strategies.

Evening: Networking and community engagement
Join a virtual HR networking group to gain fresh ideas and perspectives by engaging with peers. Try Meetup or LinkedIn to find relevant groups. It can be fruitful to learn from others while sharing your thoughts.
?Sunday: Today reflect and strategize
Morning: Try mindfulness and reflection
Whether journaling, yoga, meditation, or a quiet cup of coffee, you can center your thoughts. Reflect on small weekly goals. Pen down your thoughts about specific actions or items that emerge as you reflect.
Afternoon: Skill application and strategy planning
If your Saturday was well-spent in learning, it is time to have a tangible plan to make the outcome more rewarding. Think about how you can apply or implement your new learning. Whether it is a new employee engagement initiative, D&I strategy, or a revised onboarding process, consider small pilot projects. This will help demonstrate your refined approach and continuous commitment to workplace improvement.
Evening: Set yourself up for success?
Before Monday even shows up, get organized with your schedule. Create a to-do list of prioritized tasks based on your thoughts and actions during the weekend. A well-structured plan with strategic initiatives can help you sail through the entire work week very smoothly sans stress.
That was all about my plans for the weekend, do share yours. I hope all of you have a relaxing and skill-enhanced weekend!
