The Weekend Read: Webjet demerger gets green light

Hello and welcome to the weekend read! One of the biggest stories this week has been in the works for a while. It was the long-awaited demerger of Webjet. More than 97 per cent of shareholders voted to untangle its B2B offering WEB Travel Group from its B2C offering Webjet Group on Tuesday.

Following the demerger, Katrina Barry - CEO of Webjet B2C - rejoined the Australian Travel Industry Association Board, replacing Shelley Beasley, who was head of Webjet’s B2C division.

Elsewhere, Air India Limited , now part of the huge Tata Group , is on a steady rebuild and will be targeting the growing diaspora of Indian-Australians as part of its rebuild, said its CEO & MD Campbell Wilson.

Meanwhile, footy fans were scrambling to make it to the game on time as cancelled flights left punters in a state of panic in Adelaide and Melbourne.

QF734 was scheduled to fly a plane load of Port Adelaide fans from the South Australian capital at 12.20pm today but the flight was cancelled because of an engineering issue.

“We understand this disruption is frustrating and apologise to passengers for the inconvenience,” a Qantas spokesperson told Travel Weekly. Late in the piece, the major carriers announced they would be adding extra flights.
