Weekend Musings: The trump card for success - Cohesive Teamwork

If cricket is India’s biggest religion, then the World Cup is certainly its biggest festival. The tournament is underway in England and the excitement is evident. The conversations revolve only around the game and despite strong oppositions, I haven’t heard anyone doubt our team’s potential. Such is the confidence; such is the unity this game brings.

It gets a billion voices behind it – cheering for 11 men who are our nation’s pride. And at the biggest stage of the sport – the World Cup – the passion is at its peak, both in the stadiums and back here. 

Honestly, I think our team even deserves such fandom because in these 11 players, I see everything a complete team can ask for- aggression, strategy, excellence, talent – our team checks all the departments. 

Not only that, it is also a brilliant mix of young and experienced players – those who have represented India at this stage before and those having their first go. Such a team carries the potential to win anywhere, be it the cricket field or a corporate.

The reason is that it has the three core skills I attribute to a team – experience, youth, and individual talents. When all the talents are brought to the table and experience guides the dedicated youth properly, you have the perfect recipe for success. Be it the boardroom or the dressing room, motivating youngsters is necessary, so is providing feedback. The youth may be driven but experience needs to come in to devise strategies – give the drive the right direction. This is the very foundation of teamwork.

Moreover, experience also brings certain attributes youth might need to develop, like keeping calm at pressure moments, respecting opponents, and recovering from failure. To their credit, youngsters always bring new energy to any project. You can always count on them to be innovative and out-of-the-box, since inexperience allows them to view things from a different perspective.

Be it a corporate project or a cricket match, teamwork determines success. And with a team like ours, going on to win the tournament isn’t impossible. So as we support our nation during the World Cup, let’s cheer for all 11 of our boys as they are all an important part of one single team. The competition is strong but that is good news. Who doesn’t love thrilling chases and last ball finishes (especially with Dhoni’s helicopters)? The game has never failed to entertain us and it never will. So let’s look forward to our success at the World Cup and give our team all the support that we can.
