This weekend I’m running the Taupo 100km Ultra Marathon and raising money for LifeLine Aotearoa.
I’m willing to take that first step and push myself further and harder than before to complete 100km to raise money for LifeLine Aotearoa.
This run is pushing me far outside my comfort zone; I’ve never run more than 18km’s in one stretch before. Telling friends and family about what I’m doing makes it real and keeps me on track.
That’s the “What”; below is the “why” I’m doing it.
My story
I have an amazing family but I almost lost them to depression and drink. This lead me to some dark, dark places where I felt there’s no way out. If I hadn’t made that first step of talking to someone I don’t know where I’d be now.
But I’m living proof that there is a “way through it” and I know that talking is the first step in the right direction. That was over 8 years ago and in my past, but it’s never forgotten.
Recently we had a good friend of the family commit suicide; he was only 26 and we’d known him since he was 5 years old. So many emotions and feelings flooded back hearing this news.
Suicide is preventable and LifeLine NZ are striving to make suicide a “never” event.
I’m willing to take that first step and push myself further and harder than before to complete 100km.
