The Weekend is Coming—Time to Rest, Reflect, and Recharge

Here’s a snippet from my new book, Cancer Ramblings, rambling 22 titled Pause with Purpose:

"It's your purpose.

Pause.

Be patient.

Pause.

The purpose of the pause is to serve you to be in the here and now.

Pause isn’t delay. Pause isn’t decay. Pause isn’t out. Pause is in and now cancer has forced me to reside within. Within me. Within nature. Within knowing that I am enough, again and again without flash or fluff."

As the weekend approaches, it’s the perfect opportunity to pause and reflect. We often think of resting as something we need only when we’re exhausted or unwell, but even in remission—like I am now, 7 months after my last round of chemo—the body still craves rest. It’s not just about feeling physically good, but about honoring your body on a deeper, cellular level.

Taking time to rest, especially in nature, has a potent, healing effect. It allows you to digest the week—both the challenges and the wins—and prepare yourself to step into the fresh week ahead with renewed vitality. When we slow down and listen to our bodies, we allow space for emotional and mental healing, too.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned through my cancer journey is the power of the pause. It’s easy to rush through life, feeling like we need to keep moving forward at all times. But, as I’ve discovered, rest is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. A well-rested body is a stronger body, and that strength carries over to our minds and hearts.

So, as you head into the weekend, remember to make time for rest. Take that walk in nature, sit in stillness, or simply close your eyes and breathe deeply. Your body, mind, and soul will thank you.
