This week: X increases subs after Grok 3 release, Instagram rolls out new DM features, and Bluesky users can tap into advanced analytics

Welcome to the Battenhall Weekly, Edition #53

1. xAI releases Grok 3, X hikes Premium+ costs

Elon Musk’s xAI has launched Grok 3, its latest AI model that is now available to X Premium+ subscribers. The company claims it has the capability to surpass competitors like OpenAI and DeepSeek. Following the announcement, the company raised the X Premium+ subscription price in the US to $50 (£39) and $350 (£277) for a year. This marks the second increase in the Premium+ plan’s price since December. The new pricing unlocks advanced Grok features like ‘deep search’ and enhanced ‘reasoning’ capabilities.

2. Instagram ups its DM game

Instagram has announced the rollout of a host of new features to improve direct messaging. Users will be able to translate messages in 99 languages, pin up to three texts per chat, schedule messages for up to 29 days in advance, and share music. The platform is also introducing QR codes to help people join group chats. These features are available on iOS and Android, with web support coming later in the year.

3. LinkedIn’s marketing 2024 benchmark report

LinkedIn’s latest 2024 B2B Marketing Benchmark report shares insights into the latest trends of AI-driven marketing. Overall, 60% of brands say their company has guidelines in place for the use of generative AI, while 66% of respondents say they use gen AI in their marketing efforts. The report is broken down by nine characteristics of marketing leaders: strategic thinkers, technology trailblazers, creative and innovative, content strategists, able to interpret data, expand their knowledge, collaborate effectively, be visionary leaders, expanding DEI efforts.

4. ‘Dislike’ button in testing on Instagram comments

Instagram is testing a ‘dislike’ button for comments on Reels and feed posts, to enhance user experience and reduce offensive or irrelevant comments. As of now, there is no dislike count, so no one will know if you tap it. While Meta previously experimented with similar tools on Facebook in 2018 and with group comments in 2020, this move highlights the company’s continued efforts to reduce and address negative interactions across its platforms.

5. Bluesky tool offers advanced analytics

Bluesky users rejoice! A new subscription tool called BlueskyHunter has launched that provides access to post analytics, scheduling, automated DMs, and more. This makes it easier for creators, brands and small to medium-sized businesses to optimise their presence. The platform also features a ‘Viral Posts’ section that highlights current trends. A future update will enable users to send automated follow-up messages to those who do not respond to the initial DM, thus enhancing engagement and outreach. The service is priced at $29 per month, but early adopters can subscribe for a reduced rate of $15.
