This week we caught up with Daisy Jessop - Junior Stills Stylist, former photo studio intern to find out what life at MATCHESFASHION looks like...
What is your life as photo studio Intern like?
Life as the studio intern is super busy! This job requires you to be organised, forthcoming and full of energy. Having remained open every day throughout the pandemic, it has meant that I have constantly been in an environment where I am learning and gaining insights into how the studio (and matches as a company) is run.?
What do you do on a daily basis as part of your role?
Being the studio intern means that your day-to-day role changes constantly – something which I have found to be an important aspect of the job. It has meant that I have had to work across multiple teams and have had opportunities to learn about all the different aspects of the studio, such as styling, size and fit, production and photography. However, the key role of the studio intern is to assist the stylists on set and prep, meaning you are often on your feet running about and organising things to ensure that the studio can run as smoothly as possible. There are always jobs to be done and you will become extremely accustomed to the matches fashion brand and customer, alongside developing an acute awareness of the brands we stock.

What’s been your top learning so far??
My top learning so far, I would say has been the development of my brand awareness, both in terms of the brands we sell here at matches and of matches as a brand within itself. I have also been able to cultivate more of a visual understanding of images, through working with both on set and stills styling, and feel like I am able to articulate and produce much more exciting imagery as a result of this.?
What advice would you give to someone wishing to be an Intern in your department??
I would advise anyone wishing to be an intern here at the photo studio to really try and understand brands, the images they show and who they are trying to appeal to. Also ask lots of questions and just help wherever you can!
What’s next in terms of your career with MATCHESFASHION?
I have just been given an amazing opportunity to move to another role here in the studio and have recently started working as the Junior Stills Stylist. There are lots of exciting opportunities in the studio and I would have never applied for this role if I hadn’t been able to work alongside the stills department and gain a deeper understanding of their role here. My advice would be to simply use your initiative and you never know where you might end up!?
