THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
October 2, 1942
On October 2nd, 1942, Bob Stanley took the Bell XP-59A Airacomet (The US’s first jet aircraft) on its “official” first flight from what would become the Muroc Flight Test Base (present-day North Base).? It climbed to 6,000 ft after an unusually long takeoff roll. The aircraft proved to be stable, quiet, and easy to fly, but with unexciting overall performance. The flight was made in the presence of Dr. Durand and Col Laurence C. “Bill” Craigie, chief of the Experimental Aircraft Section at Wright Field. Col Craigie then flew the airplane, thus becoming the nation’s first military jet pilot.

From keeping our test force healthy, to assisting with programs aimed at preventing medical emergencies, SrA Timko is a shining example of how every Airman play’s a critical role in ensuring our nation’s national security.

Townhall Q & A's
Will there ever be a chance that the speed limits get raised on installation? Rosamond Blvd?
?It's up to you. As soon as we all reliably start driving the current speed limits, I will actually consider raising the speed limits to something that is more appropriate. We will work with SFS to see if there is a decreasing trend in traffic violations in the near future to make that decision. If we all start complying with the rule now, I will trust that we will comply with a future rule. It's up to you.
?What is the procedure regarding snakes and if you get bit?
?Get to an ambulance and get to the nearest hospital ASAP (911).?There is at least one ambulance crew available to get to you on Edwards. They are within small single?digit minutes of any place in the housing area once you make a call.
