Trump's fate on Facebook to be decided by Oversight Board. Twitter verification is coming back. TikTok closes in on Facebook. IKEA wins the Bernie Sanders meme. And IDK how I lived without this exhaustive social media abbreviations glossary.
Here are some quick hits to kick off your week.
Fast 5
- [News] Facebook's independent Oversight Board will be deciding Trump's fate on the platform.
- [News] After its three-year hiatus, Twitter verification is coming back, and the social media company has released criteria for getting that coveted, blue tick, including accounts having to fit into one of six categories.
- [News] Don't sleep on TikTok. Time spent on the app is up 325% year-over-year, surpassing Facebook for the first time.
- [Platform Update] Story Pins are finding their way at the top of Pinterest user feeds in a new panel display the platform is testing.
- [Platform Update] Speaking of tests, TikTok is experimenting with a new Q&A option that allows select creators (for now) to respond to audience questions via text or video.
I Wish I Made This
The Bernie Sanders meme—I laughed for a couple days. And then I stopped laughing. Because it got old. But I always love when a company can run with a meme without doing much to it, while still making a smart impact. One example that comes to mind was a former travel client's "Keep Calm and Carry-On" social post featuring carry-on luggage. Here's a great Bernie one from IKEA to help you "get the look." Simplicity. It speaks volumes.

(LOL, Lots of Love Edition)
I'm not afraid to admit that a million years ago, I thought "LOL" stood for "lots of love." Luckily, I kept that to myself and never embarrassed myself with my BFFs. But do you know what I could have used? I could have used this extremely thorough glossary of social media acronyms. Do you know what H/T means? What about CMV? No? Perhaps you could use this, too. Because the first step to succeeding on social is learning the language.
That's it for today. See you next week...
