This week in social – 20 May 2019

Your weekly summary of official social media news from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Google.

Facebook

Facebook is working with health partners to create detailed, AI-driven maps that pair health system information with data on human mobility to yield insights about diseases spread by human-to-human contact.

This includes:

  1. High-resolution population density maps.
  2. Movement maps of real-time mobility patterns.
  3. Network coverage maps showing where health organisations can reach people with online messages in advance of activities like vaccination days to reach largest number of people at lowest cost.

Find the maps on Humanitarian Data Exchange or reach out to [email protected].

Twitter

Twitter has committed to five individual and four collaborative actions with Facebook, Microsoft, Google and Amazon to address the abuse of tech to spread terrorist and extremist content. As well as updating its terms of use and committing to better user reporting and investment in technology to detect such content, the platforms are considering how to tackle live streaming.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn has a 13-week podcast Hello Monday by Jessi Hempel that investigates how the nature of work is changing, and how that work is changing us. Find it here.

Google

Google Assistant has been integrated into Bose home entertainment systems and can be activated with voice. The use of voice continues to increase. The 2019 Hootsuite We Are Social Digital Report recently showed the use of voice control tools increased significantly in 2018, with roughly four in every ten internet users using voice commands or voice search every month.

I also published this on my blog.
