RecOps Outside of the US
The RecOps Conference is about six weeks out, which is wild to think about. We just released our second vignette/conversation starter for it, and for this one, we chatted with Nitin Moorjani. While many RecOps functions tend to be US-centric, it’s important to have conversations with RecOps folks outside of it to get new ideas and approaches (we’ve talked about the importance of doing that here). Two pieces that always sticks out when talking with EMEA RecOps professionals are:
Let’s address each:
The amount of legal and cultural knowledge they need to do their roles.
Unlike North America (NAMER), which consists of three countries, the number in EMEA varies depending on how you look at it. On the low end you are talking about 11 countries and on the high end you are talking about 115. Each of those countries have their own rules and regulations (even if it is an EU standard) around candidates, employees, and data (especially personal data with GDPR) that the RecOps team have to maintain continual knowledge of when they design any process or reports. Speaking of processes and reports, EMEA RecOps pros also have to balance strong cultural elements in all of their trainings as well.
The amount of education back to different business group’s to justify why they are needed.
Across numerous conversations we’ve had with EMEA RecOps professionals, a consistent theme that arises is the need to justify their existence especially in the face of their company questioning why a specialist is needed for process, systems, reporting, and programs specifically for the Recruiting teams. EMEA RecOps professionals have to overcome the coordinator + perception more regularly than those in the NAMER, which adds additional stress to their roles. And, while many take on the challenge and demonstrate value day in and day out, others are forced to pivot and also add recruiting/sourcing to their already stuffed plates.
Who are some EMEA RecOps pros to follow?
This is by no means an exhaustive list below (which is organized alphabetically). If there are people or groups we missed, please add them in the comments.

Short Bio
I’m a forward-thinking, scrappy Talent Acquisition professional with 20+ years of global recruiting experience at various company sizes in multiple industries. I am passionate about innovative technology, data analysis, creative problem solving, process efficiency, impactful employer branding, and exceptional interview experience. Some of my biggest achievements were at Activision, where I staffed multiple high-profile video game projects (including three blockbuster Call of Duty titles) before leading the talent sourcing function, where I developed and implemented a service-level agreement to drive efficiency and accountability. In my most recent role as RecOps Manager with Epic Games, I led the creation of a TA org knowledge base that was developed with Notion, which saved the team time and frustration trying to find information. Helping people is my jam. ??
